did you follow all the steps in my walkthrough exactly?
the cfg file needs to have the right paths to the files it is looking for. the reason you are getting the cannot load error is because you have set the config locations incorrectly. since I put everything in a folder directly in my c...
yes make sure that the shortcut is set to win95 compatible mode. also, when you run the game are there any new folders created within the fallout 2 folder? if you don't path it right in the cfg this'll happen.
whoa you guys are acting crazy. I don't want a morrowind mod. I don't sit around figuring out how to manually install Fallout 2 on my computer because I love morrowind so much. I've only played morrowind a little bit and I've played fallout for...how many hours?
This is rediculous though...
and I never said Morrowind equals fallout, it doesn't even come close. But we're all the fallout obsessed here and we have to accept the fact that what once was is now gone, the teams that created fallout 1 & 2 will never give us fallout 3. however, we have some folks who clearly feel...
oh and when I said SPECIAL will be changed...I really don't think that they're going to take out SPECIAL or anything like that because SPECIAL is funny and unique and overall gives the game a certain edge. I just assume that SPECIAL will be different, maybe you'll have to do something enough...
oh I like it alright on Xbox. for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way on my computer but I know plenty of other people who are obsessed with the PC version.
Ok well you guys are right in that I didn't read most of the thread and just weighed in on this issue. sorry about that I'm just eager to get in on the conversation.
I've played 1 Bethesda game, Morrowind, which I had for PC and hated (I only started the game 2 times) but recently I picked...
oh yeah I know I've been playing fallout 1 and 2 for years but only recently has it become a chore to get them to work. I figure I can just take everything on my computer now and zip them or rar them and burn it to CD so I don't have to go through everything again.
BTW if anyone has any...
well I think we should all assume that SPECIAL will be changed. In my mind I see KOTOR when I think about how Bethesda might approach this game. I think everyone should be open to this scenario.
Guess what, video games are expensive to make. They're stressful to make; and MOST...
So I've finally gotten Fallout 2 to work using a manual install technique similar to the Fallout 1 technique. Here's how:
First copy the following files from the CD:
Fallout2.___
CRITTER.DAT
MASTER.DAT
PATCH000.DAT
Put these into a folder (mine was on my C drive and called...
Well hopefully I can try this sometime tonight but since my gf would like to go out I doubt I'll be able to reply on my results until tomorrow. so until then...
well some good news. the manual install did work for fallout 1 which i am currently playing and am very happy about this fact. however, still no luck with fallout 2 (that's what i was really getting at).
is there a manual install for fallout 2?
btw, uninstall/install doesn't work.
one more note:
The Fallout.exe has a picture of some random fat dude's head instead of the blonde hair PIP boy.
also, the auto play screen doesn't give me the option to hit "Play" even after I've installed. that button stays grey.
Ok so I've been reading the forums and here's my problem:
Start FO2, Blank Screen, Crash.
I've switched compatability modes and screen size and 256 colors, still no luck.
Here is as far as I have gotten:
Diabled video card, restarted, set compatability mode to Win 95.
this alone...
