    I had similar problem . Sufficient size of hole on stairs is 2.5 tile (15 world units) . Stairs would work good if you raise height of building by two world units adding for example RoofCaps .     First of all : I was wrong with gimp and PNG - that gif format is patented . Second : Im using photoshop Elements , bundled software with my digital camera . I can write png's with transparency but never with separate alpha channel . Photoshop Help explain that png can not handle...

    Bit of topic . How You can write Alpha chanel in PNG Format ? That impossible in Photoshop - png just dosn't support any alpha chanel .

    Meaby You can try Gimp ? There is also windows version . However you need to download png plug-in separatly due to license problems .
