@RangerBoo they want to justify their purchase to have value because denying that thought in their mind would mean that they may have also made a mistake backing Bethesda for Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. It's an effect I've seen coined as "The Sunk Cost Fallacy."
The cardboard disc thing is silly but it kinda shows how pointless discs are in the first place where we have DRM games. The discs that include codes for Steam or other launchers were just nice to have I guess? Or to install most of the game without downloading it?
