Wouldn't the existence of a slang be a result of a marked prominence of something at first? I've probably seen like three amputees here in my life

I have seen like 2 in my life and we have a bunch of different slang terms for amputees in Colombia alone. Also, the Brits have like slang for people with Spina bifida and how common is that really?
