Republic of Dave is like 100ft away old Olney. Shit that dumb is everywhere in fallout 3. Suspension of disbelief only works when something makes a smidgen of sense in the first place.
Yeah, at this point anybody who denied the shittiness of Fallout 3's absolutely blinded by nostalgia. How could anybody play that piece of shit these days after experiencing better technicality of New Vegas is beyond me.
Don't get me wrong, I'm just like you in terms that FO3 still had that kind of special place in my heart, but no amount of mods could fix it to run properly on my machine.
Fo3 runs "fine" for me and my shitty gateway laptop. And thanks black angel I try my best not to let nostalgia cloud my judgement. Fo3 is garbage and I like to roll around in it.
@eissa the only way to play Fallout 3. I need to get a new rig first so I can have more space, and finally play Fallout 3 the way it was meant to be as a Fallout game, getting the mods that change the %based skills checks to the static ones and the mods that completely rewrite Lone Wanderer's dialogue to match that of the Courier.
@R.Graves I don't know, haven't tried it. But many lines are hilarious and...probably breaking the fourth wall. Fallout 2 level of breaking the fourth wall. Ask @Risewild
I'd say the Old Olney near Big Town thing can kinda somewhat be explained by the game world being shrunk down. Given the location of Big Town compared with Germantown, I'd say that it is probably roughly 14 miles from actual Old Olney.
The thing that annoyed me is Little Lamplight. I mean, there is no possible way a town made by schoolkids that kicks you out at 18 could last 200 years.
As for the wacky level of Fallout 2 dialogue, yeah it was over the top sometimes, but it was also quite funny a lot of the time. If they cut the realism breaking stuff like telepathic rat gods and ghosts, and just kept in the over the top humor and perhaps fourth wall breaking, I think it would have worked quite well.
@eissa have you tried checking the mod? I mean, yeah even MCA kind of regret what's done. But hey, at least it's better than, "Did you see my father, middle-aged guy?" or "[Intelligence] So you fight the Good Fight with your voice?"
