Emo Ren? He has to be the most laughable villain in any movie that isn't a comedy.

Kylo Ren is awesome. The whole point is that he's not Darth Vader because he's lionized a sick old Space Nazi into a super badass.

"He is supposed to suck" congratulations movie, your villain sucks and offers no menace.

It gives him an arc to become terrifying.

That mouse looking emo teenager becoming terrifying? They couldn't even make their protagonist feel fleshsed out, so I doubt it.

Also, shouldn't the heavy of the antagonist start out terrifying? What kind of backwards logic is to have a trilogy where the antagonists are pathetic and easily defeated by an all powerful hero on the first installment?

Eh, Kylo Ren was shot by Chewbacca and still beat Finn before losing to the Force. I think it's also a good idea not to pretend you can match Vader.

He beat someone who couldn't even shoot straight and had no training then got beat by someone who had no training. Also it's a good idea to try and make your villain stand on it's own instead of spending the movie going "He is worse than the villain that came before". Then again, the force Awakens was just nostalgia pandering.
