TV can be outright excrutiating sometimes

That's not even counting shit that's actually banned here, like I saw my family watch in Spain - such as 4 hour(!) gossip-shows, DAILY, and those 4 hours was for one specific show. The same people would appear in other DAILY "versions" of the same format, they seemed to live every day of their lives in those studios!

I'm not kidding, I've seen them eat their fucking dinners, while gossiping away in the gossip show studios!

It's even worse than it used to be, they used to gossip about celebs, but it ended up getting them sued too much, so now they only gossip about each others, the studio faces, like a horrible, nightmarish, daily circle-gossip :S

I do know that there is a similar "daily gossip" show here in Colombia but seems to only exist on the mornings as a kind of connecting thread to the morning programming. Then after 12pm it's the news and then tv series and soap operas. That's in the 2 main channels.

Others just seem to have a News show and then they just buy a bunch of foreing tv shows because only the 2 major networks can actually produce whole shows for themselves. Lots of reporting around here too because of our status as a state at war.

Remember when channels like this were about teaching people something about history, be it certain cultures, development of technology, war history, and so on.
Once the History Channel had the nickname "The Hitler Channel" because of all the WW2 stuff.

The sopranos, game of thrones, weeds and breaking bad are all worth giving a shot though...
