Walp, they don't have their own population in mind. It can litterally go fuck itself, or go invade other countries, or whatever feeds the machine the best. Work-force is currently best handed to China or India, or anyone else who will take an apple and a half for monthly payment.

As a Colombian, I don't really have that high an opinion on military people, I don't hate them per se, but I really don't see them as that exceptional in general, hell sometimes they can be some of the most insufferable people because they have been broken into having an overcompensating personality.

I'm refering to the fact that many of them truly believe they are risking their life for the betterment of others. Even if they are mistaken, and used as pawns, they don't necesarily realize. Others are just excitement-junkies. Then you have those who just had no clue what they even got themselves into...

Norway, for example, has very minimal battle experience since WW2, and when our handful of troops in Afghanistan lost a soldier or two, it was newspaper front page material "A guy died!!!" dude, it's war, it's _super dangerous_, why is everyone so surprised?

Neither is murder in my eyes.

Murder is when someone is killed without legal authority. Justice is when that same act is done for the purpose of punishment.

If you dont factor in "morals" then a death sentence makes 100% more sense than a life sentence tbh.
T
TorontoReign
A death sentence is less of a drain on society but as it is now they are fed and taken care of for far too long, however the lengthy process can allow new evidence to be brought to light so it is a tough call. Plus life is more precious than the greater good in some cases. Individual rights should not be impeded by social progress or something.

So then you agree with me?

Somewhat.

This may be somewhat of an unpopular opinion here, but I am against the death penalty. The way I see it, we should care for everyone in society, even if it does drain resources. Criminals are no less people then anyone else in my view.
R.Graves
R.Graves
It not that they're less of a person they're just not worth keeping around especially considering that they've done something worthy of the death penalty.

Even if they are innocent? What if it turns out, that an innocent person has been killed. I can see that emotions might justify it, sure some people do very horrific things. But the danger of even killing one person that might have been innocent? That's not worth it.
R.Graves

We can't worry about what-ifs. Even if the person is innocent its a rare case where its fixed. Not much of a difference tbh.

Sure, as long it's not your ass that's on the line ;). Also, it's not as rare as you might think it is. Sadly there is no 'accurate' data on the cases. Your trust in the system is admirable. But I am the better save than sorry kind of guy.

I'm just looking at this from a practical standpoint.

Well, than you should talk about the whole prison/crime system in the US which is totally bonkers, and more about 'revenge' rather than solving issues - see the huge criminalisation of weed. It has really become an industry and a very very ugly one.
R.Graves

Yeah well, can't we just tackle on facet of the problem at a time?

By killing criminals? I might be wrong, but I remember that I have read that death penalities actually don't prevent crimes. Infact, they lead to more viollent crimes, since the criminla will think, if I have to die, I will kill all the wittness. However, the idea that you spend your whole life in prison is a much stronger deterrent
