CG is not always awful. The problem with CG is the only time you notice it is when it's bad CG. That said, practical effects will always be more timeless and charming.

Because of the increase in ppicture quality on cinemas and home release some practical effects can no longer work on their own and still need some touch up. The secret lies on that, Touch up, not "rely exclusively on it for everything".
