    Stand up comedy

Oh! I haven't seen him listed yet, but Brian Regan is hands-down the funniest guy in stand-up today. He won Stand-Up Comedian of the Year from Comedy Central two or three times in a row recently. His new special just came out last month (haven't caught it on a rerun yet) but his original one is...

    Clothes : your particular style

I don't even know how to describe my style. Normal? I usually wear either semi-long shorts or jeans (depending on the weather), a button-up shirt with another shirt underneath (and the button-up unbuttoned), and depending on what the weather is like my Raiders sweater or no sweater at all.

Introduce yourself! AKA the "Say hello" thread

I figured since I've been hanging out here more than I originally anticipated I may as well formally introduce myself. Hell, I'm Brendon. I'm a games journalist (the reason why I came here -- to clarify anything on my Fallout article) and a sports writer for a few newspapers. In the past...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

generalissimofurioso, if you love Odin Sphere check out GrimGrimoire. Same developers (VanillaWare) but it's a 2D RTS RPG game rather than the sidescrolling beat 'em up. Same visual style (basically), but an INCREDIBLE story and awesome characters. The only downside is at the end of the game...

Top 100 independent games of the last 3 years

If you like indy games, pay attention to a game coming out called Braid (braid-game.com, I believe). I played it at E3 when I thought i was going to get dinner before meeting D3, and the game is ADDICTING. It's basically Mario and Prince of Persia meets a puzzle game; you have the 2d platforming...

    Hey, their words, not mine.

    Fallout 3 at E3 - Gamernode

If you can make your character look like Jeff Goldblum, there is absolutely no reason anyone should hate this game.

    Fallout 3 at E3 - Kotaku

The hacking portion is actually one of the more annoying things I saw in it. The guy next to me (I didn't catch what he was from, but he was definitely Australian) was so awed by it that I wanted to just kick him in the shin and show him a site like Pogo where he can play that game for free.

Don't forget the quest which can only be initiated if you have glasses to take off when you proclaim, "Oh my God..."

Because if they didn't crank up the percentages and showcase heads exploding people wouldn't go, "WOW THIS GAME IS AWESOME! LOOK! A JAWBONE!" It's just basic marketing. Showcase the coolest looking parts of the game early on, and once tons of people are excited about it (such as anyone who...

Who do you trust (to review your games?)

Myself, and anyone who writes for me. Also, I love MetaCritic. Outside of that compilation site (and my own stuff), most of the people I talk games with work for gaming companies. You'd be surprised how candid some of them can be about their own stuff if you ask and tell them it's off the...

    What is your weather like?

Well, in Portland during E3 week there was a weird heatwave (100+ for a couple days) so I thankfully escaped that. Right now, it's pretty muggy outside and it's been raining on and off. Sometimes I hate Oregon weather.

    Stand up comedy

If you like Mitch Hedberg or Demetri Martin, you should listen to Stephen Wright. He's the first really popular one-liner comedian. Another of my favorites is Zach Galifinakis. He's really hit or miss, though. And, of course, who could forget Steven Lynch, the best musical comedian today.

    Recommended Unpopular Games\Bands

A few of my favorite games that people never seem to play are: Planescape Torment (PC), Gitaroo Man (PS2/PSP), Phantom Dust (Xbox), and Killer7 (a few consoles). Phantom Dust is probably my favorite from that list -- especially since it's BC compatible with the 360, now. Bands is a bit...

    I need some help here

Do you have any consoles? There have been a few PS2 games out recently which play in 2D using really nice animations rather than 3D, but are still very fun and easily to be addicted to. As for PC, I would say maybe look for a few free (or in beta) RPGs coming out. Also, if you have never...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Hellboy (360) - A fun brawling game, with a few cool boss fights. A lot of the combat obviously gets repetitive, though, and the lack of customization hurts replayability. Quake Wars - An absolute blast. I love the fact you can sandbox the missions and let the computer handle the objectives...

    Fallout 3 at E3 - GWN

Just for the guy commenting about the heads exploding: Bethesda cranked up all the hit numbers and critical %'s for the demonstration. Even then they got surprised if a head blew up after one or two shots, though.

    Fallout 3 at E3 - Gamernode

The way it worked was when he went into the VATS mode, it would zoom in and show the enemies on the screen. I'm pretty sure first or third person would look the same, since third person zoomed in on an enemy and first person zoomed in on an enemy should be the same image. As for how he...

    Fallout 3 at E3 - Gamernode

Open them up side by side and try to tell them apart! I dare ya! But yeah, it looks a little better in person than still, just because of the shimmering/grid stuff/etc. That's basically what it looks like, though. On the giant ants it was a little different (head/pincer/antenna for...

    Fallout 3 at E3 - Gamernode

When they got into the metro they pretty much just dropped in through a hole in the ground. They activated the robot, killed a few mutants, then skipped ahead to the next scene (when they met up with the people) afterwards. I'm not sure if you can hop on trains or not, but what they showed was...
