15 Coolest Games of the Fall

I completely agree that his reasons for disliking the game were suspect and mostly outright bad. Personally I liked the game. But there were in fact many people who just looked at the score and didn't care about the meat of the review. That happens a lot, on both sides.. for many games...

Bethesda tires of spending money to support pirates

You'd be surprised. Not everyone is internet-savvy. They look in the manual, find the number and call. That's how things were done for years before this newfangled typing doohicky with quick responses caught on.

15 Coolest Games of the Fall

The irony is that there were a lot of 'old school RPGers' who deemed him a martyr for giving a fair review of a game they didn't like. Now he is a douche. Well either way he is a douche. And how do I get that job? HEY GUYS, I LOOKED ON THE AMAZON UPCOMING RELEASES AND HERE THEY ARE...

    Gamasutra interviews Todd Howard

You develop games? Sweet. Which ones, maybe I have played one. Oh, I see. You took something out of context in order to get in a cheapshot. My bad. It's actually a novel approach to developing a game.. too often games tend to tack on an intro that feels out of place to the rest of the...

    Backroom I.T. reviews Fallout 3

And what basis are all the others flawed? The fact they liked the game? That's not a flaw. That's an opinion. It's also an official review. If any 3 paragraphs (half copied from wiki about a different game entirely) on wordpress counts as a review and gets posted on the front page then...

    Backroom I.T. reviews Fallout 3

I think articles like that are much more newsworthy, if only to show what the media is printing. You know, people that actually have a little pull. A random blog that no one would have read without this site doesn't deserve ripping apart. But then again, many get their jollies doing just that.

Looks like we got ourselves a mexican standoff, pardner! I'll stand by mine, without Beth we may have never seen another Fallout game. To some that might be okay, but to me I'll gladly give this one a whirl. If it sucks, oh well. But an expert on that stuff would indeed be cool.

Well, your second point could be tied to the first. We don't know the details. We don't know what the asking price even was. It could have started high and many people just never bothered. So yeah, way too deep without knowing for sure. It was a big bag of money but not so big that a whole...

Investors aren't dumb. I know it's cliche to present them as mindless suits but they don't get to be investors with millions of dollars to throw around by being idiots. They know when something is a good risk. The fact that Troika couldn't land any is telling. No one had the confidence in them...

    Backroom I.T. reviews Fallout 3

I might agree with you given a good example. This one is not it. And this is coming from someone who is much more positive about the game than the average NMAer.

Arcanum was well recieved critcally. ToEE was a Dungeons and Dragons game. I'm not sure how that is unknown. And Vampire was based on a fairly popular PnP series as well.

    Backroom I.T. reviews Fallout 3

I'm not saying his opinion isn't valid. I'm saying that its status as an official review is invalid. It just brings into question what is actually 'newsworthy' I guess. Of course BN and the Pope et al make that call.

    Gamasutra interviews Todd Howard

They never said TB was dead. They said they don't do it and wanted to use a platform they were both familiar with and that would bring a different 'perspective' (no pun intended) to the series.

I don't think most people care who is at fault. I don't buy games that suck and then research why they suck and forgive the dev because his intern was a chimpanzee or the suits were mean to him. In the end all that matters to the consumer is the final product, and if the previous 3 products...

    Backroom I.T. reviews Fallout 3

It's a BLOG, by some PIRATE. His 'review' of the game is no more valid than me saying "The game is awesome, it's really Fallout.. you may not see it in the canned videos but when you play it you will really see it! Oh and this SPECIAL and how it works blah blah wiki information" Can that...

Don't get me wrong, I think Troika had some talented people but their execution was woefully lacking. All 3 of their games rely on restoration projects to even be playable. And I'm not talking Oblivion mod style, but basic fixes to make the game release worthy. I don't think I would have...

Yes. Do you think they would have made Fallout 3 in less than a year? Well maybe, if it was as buggy and the last 1/3rd of the game was an arcade button masher like their previous titles. ;)

Troika went out of business long ago. If they couldn't afford to put out anything else after the license went elsewhere, how do you think they would finish development of Fallout 3? It would have been Van Buren all over again. I've seen a lot more than I should have at this point in time...

    Backroom I.T. reviews Fallout 3

The best part is that it's a blog by a guy who is playing a pirated version of the game. I dunno why people even consider this a review.

Well, I have a similar but different view. I think Fallout 3 will be much more of a Fallout game than the MMO will. I do not think it will work at all. Everything that makes Fallout work goes against what makes an MMO work. But that's for another thread methinks. If Bethesda had not paid...
