    The Guns and Ammo Thread

I was browsing a gun store on Friday, and found something I didn't know existed; 10-round magazines for my Sig 220. They are interesting. The spacer is removable, which is nice if I were worried about it fully seating. They'd take away my two round disadvantage when running pins. On the...

    Gun Control

You're right. I didn't ask Suaside why he cares, and I don't intend to. He doesn't think we have a 'shitty US gun culture' or that we are all 'gun nuts'. He understands why a person could enjoy using firearms, and want to retain that possibility, even in the face of a horrible tragedy. I am...

    Gun Control

Out of curiosity, at what point did I say that firearms aren't designed to shoot something? 'Problematic' is an interesting word in my country at the moment. It is a culture-wars shorthand for 'This is something I don't like, and you shouldn't like it either'. It is most frequently used in a...

    Gun Control

Three points: Feel free to tell me where you live and how it is there. I don't know where you live, but I bet criminals still commit gun crime. At a far lower rate, perhaps, but nonetheless still there. Criminals do criminal things. The NRA is indeed a powerful lobbying mechanism, and the...

    Gun Control

It's true that I am out of my element in the sense that I am a middle-aged gun-owning American on a predominantly eurocentric forum with profoundly different views on culture and the role of government. I am certain if it were put to a vote here, I'd lose. I accept the reality of the venue I...

    Gun Control

It's possible I misunderstand you, but it is equally likely you misunderstand me. You are arguing against a position I didn't take. As far as I am concerned, it is a weapon, whether the person using it feels they are doing so offensively, defensively, or otherwise. The one you posted a...

I've looked hard at the Zenith reverse stretch several times. Build quality looks pretty decent, and I'd feel way less bad carving it up with 922(r) parts then I would my SP5Ks. I spent the remainder of my gun budget on fancy 1911s this year, but perhaps next year I will pick up a Zenith myself.

    Gun Control

I can certainly understand the sentiment, and the belief that this sort of thing was entirely preventable if only we could have restricted access to guns. And perhaps that is true in this circumstance, but perhaps not. Of the largest acts of mass murder in contemporary US history, the top two...

Beautiful 53 clone. I'd love to have one myself, but I've never gotten round to it. I've been meaning to SBR one of my SP5Ks for nearly a year now, and still haven't done that, either. However, my local club is setting up a match for the pistol caliber carbine (PCC) division of USPSA, so I...

    Gun Control

I don't usually insert myself in these types of thread, because as stated, they tend to go in circles and devolve into personal insults and slights based on national and cultural stereotyping, on all sides of the discussion. But I'll participate briefly in this one, on the understanding that...

NMAs favorite cult films and obscure films double thread

I made my 20 year old daughter watch "The Last Dragon" with me for my birthday. I told her that the double cassette boom box was the I-phone of my day, and the reason we didn't have childhood obesity is because we were lugging around these giant boxes filled with 12 D-cell batteries. On the...

Most of the value is tied up in just three of the guns. In fact, I think the other nine together about equal the big three. The advantages of being old and gainfully employed for a long time. Taking this pin shooting tonight. Because I won the last two matches, I am barred from taking home...

NMAs favorite cult films and obscure films double thread

Obscure, eh? 'Streets of Fire', because who doesn't love a good sledge-hammer fight. 'Dead Heat' because 80's buddy cop zombie horror comedy. 'Hell comes to Frogtown' because it is one of the finest examples of Roddy Piper's acting genius, plus the 'dance of the three snakes'. 'The Wraith'...

    The Guns and Ammo Thread

One of my shooting buddies wanted to try out some pistol caliber carbines on the 25 yard plate range. Now that I have switched ammo, my 77/44 ran fantastic. Underwood really sucks in this gun. My buddy built himself some sort of .45 ACP Mauser conversion that was unbelievably quiet...

    Pokemon Adventures

So a little update is probably in order. My son and I went back this week, and I got smarter. My son is not old enough to really understand all the intricate strategy involved in building a 'deck', and I had no intention of spending the time to figure it out. I looked around the room until I...

    What's your poison?

The American regulatory trifecta of vice: A lot of you seem to still enjoy sweet liquors. That dies off quite a bit after your mid-thirties, about the same time as most of your gut peptides. I no longer have the stomach for sugary drinks. I still drink beer on occasion, usually social...

    What's your poison?

Double bourbon neat, served room temperature as it was meant to be. The choice of middle management alcoholics everywhere. Partial to Buffalo Trace when I am buying, Knob Creek single cask on someone else's dime.

The ship has sailed on hearing damage many years ago, unfortunately. Now I double up on muffs and plugs most times to preserve what I have left. According to my Doc, the fractures have healed pretty cleanly, however I still have a lot of soft tissue pain and swelling. I am sure it will...
