No I'm saying that I understand why they changed it the way they did. The ending change was necessary. The gargoyles were necessary comic relief for children in an otherwise very dark movie.

Still just happens in his imagination. They definitely needed to change the ending a bit for the film to make it more kid friendly. In the novel Frollo gets a hold of Esmeralda in the church and has her hanged. Then Quasimodo lies down with her corpse, holding it in his arms, until he dies of...

I'm pretty sure the gargoyles were only in there so that Disney could still claim it was a kid movie. You have to remember though that the gargoyles aren't actually moving. Quasimodo is just imagining that they are. He's not quite right in the head.

The hunchback is supposed to look like that. He's horribly deformed and most likely mentally disabled as well (at least in the book). Edit: Also my point was that HoND had a shitload of sexual undertones. It's easily the least child appropriate Disney movie.

Evangelion isn't what you should watch to get into anime. The Rebuild movies were supposed to make the franchise more accessible, but they're not that much better. If you want to get into anime try stuff like Cowboy Bebop, The Big O, Black Lagoon, etc. Edit: Also btw the Rebuild movies...
