I just got the GECK from Vault 13 and got to our village. Once I get there, the shaman says everyone got fucked up by the Enclave... Did I spend too much time looking for the GECK or this happens 100% of the time?

The shaman from our village keeps getting in contact with me telepathically saying they need a GECK. Every time he says things are getting worse. Is the game hinting that I should get a move on, or can I take my time?
