RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

Alright silly imitations of you guys aside, I agree with Sawyer that fans like you are too conservative and only value rpg's with classic mechanics. My point stands that you don't need to show player stats, the number of damage a weapon does, you also don't need perks or skill checks. Unless you...

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

That's the spirit! And it will help connect the combat too, so you won't have to do the filler content in between.

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

I'm just agreeing with you, you want more games like fallout 1/2 where you kill things, that's what an rpg is. You can ignore dog meat and kill on your own, kill the dog itself, feed the dog and he'll help you kill things, so much choice. If you're not killing directly, someone will kill for...

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

It's the natural evolution, in Fallout 1 you kill things, go kill cop, I dun like him, you kill cop, or you kill other guy. Or you kill a doctor or you might not kill, that's plenty of choice. Later on a guy wants you to kill sum people but you can kill him back. The game teaches you what the...

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

I don't care, all that matters is if I kill things and like the world. I like deserts, and killing things in deserts. See? Sand. More games need to be like Fallout 3 and 4 so we can progress the genre and killl. That's how RPG's work.

That's not true skill, player based skill is the future. I hope Sawyer makes a game like Skyrim, I like killing things.

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

Cause it's skill based, that's how RPG's should be. Ideally it would be FPS games but you can try different things, like card game RPG eSports, or even Beatemups would be ideal and very radical.

*losing his mind, not loosing. Also I agree with Walpknut, but the RPG should also be an eSport.

If that was your goal then seem oddly proud that you wasted your time.

Comparing running in RPG's to racing games, yeah this conversation is going nowhere.

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

It's not contradictory, an RPG with gameplay beyond adding skill points trough a UI is perfectly reasonable, an RPG that conveys information without numbers is perfectly doable. And stop with the "RPG's shouldn't require player skills" because they already do, if you play a healer you still...

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

Animations, sounds, decals, sprites and so on. Again it's tedious explaining something so many times only for someone to overlook the comment and ask me again to explain it. Also it's a game, sometimes you can't visualize a concept until you have played the game. There is no such a thing as a...

    Thoughts on lootboxes?

It's a fan thing period, when people get attached to a game or a company they overlook problems because they tend to project themselves into it. Criticising the game or the company to such people is like criticising themselves, that's why criticism is taken very personally, that's why companies...

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

You can convey the information without the numbers, trough visuals and sound and so on. There's nothing contradictory, you have the character progression or "stats" but it's in the background, again it's getting tiresome to explain this constantly only to see someone say "Oh so you want Counter...

RPGs can become much more “radical” but hardcore players are “resistant to change”, says Obsidian

I already explained above that you can have it so the character skill is still the main focus but you can do it without the need to show the numbers. Look at my replies to Kohno, it's getting tiresome to write the same thing so many times.

:smug: Ye of course, totally, that's EXACTLY what I meant, STALKER, FPS games, yep exactly, perfect RPG experience. ;-)

Who's thinking that? Most people I talk to hardly consider FO4 an RPG and constantly talk about how dumbed down Skyrim was. Even people who like the games don't think that way.

    Thoughts on lootboxes?

If it's a game you need to buy to play, lootboxes shouldn't be included, even if it's just cosmetic stuff. If it's a F2P game I can see why they're added, but there are more player friendly ways to gain money other than a system so heavily based on chance.
