    A genuine, worthy sequel

For starters, thanks a bunch for the understanding and respect shown in this thread, everybody's doing a great job at keeping it civil, and that should teach NMA outsiders that we're not raging lunatics, or not in a bad sense at least... Anyway, I wanted to point out that, when it comes to...

    A genuine, worthy sequel

Sorry, but no. I respect your opinion UNTIL you arbitrarily claim that somebody is not entitled to one. I played Wasteland. I played Fallout 1 since the demo was released. I played Fallout 2 and Tactics. Except for Tactics, which I didn't enjoy that much, I have gone through all "canon"...

    Powerful weapons in FO3...

Finally! It's not a complaint really, I was just shocked when I encountered my first giant radscorpion. Two in fact. I unloaded a few SMG bursts on one and it basically stared back with a "oi, that wasn't nice" look. Took me a good 20 shots from the hunting rifle to dispose of both of...

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

True, but reading Dean's Electronics made you better at repairing town wells. Sneaking and pickpocketing being different fields doesn't mean they "don't even compare". Why does pickpocketing require diversion instead of stealth? Wouldn't it be a bit of both? Technically you can also "steal"...

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

Now, *that* is a way of not dumbing down the game and still making things coherent. Kudos to you, good sir!

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

Sorry to be the devil's advocate here, but Fallout 1 and 2 had a number of not only useless but also absurd skills with completely arbitrary differences. Doctor and first aid are a good example. You could technically max one out and never care about the other, resulting in fun results. For...

Stumbled across a painfully simple infinite XP bug

An excellent point! Although Civ 4 did have a number of memory leaks upon release that were corrected swiftly in a patch, it was indeed in a more finished, polished state. At this point though, I wonder if using the Oblivion engine didn't actually set things back in this case. See Crysis /...

Stumbled across a painfully simple infinite XP bug

Sorry, but I disagree completely with that statement. The fact that Fallout 2 was developed in one year only reflects that it was an older engine. All modern games take longer to develop than any older game. A brutal amount of highly detailed art has to be added, new engine technologies...

Your favorite Fallout moment from F3

Nothing specific, but... Found a supermutant with a minigun in the middle of the wastelands next to a truck. I fired at the gun itself with my laser rifle, breaking it. The mutant charged, and I switched to the scoped Magnum for better close-range firepower (yay for "Gunslinger" perk!)...

AI is incredibly stupid in this game

I do miss often in VATS too... As for the AI, I thought it was pretty terrible at first, especially after the few encounters in the vault with baton-armed dudes who would just run at me as I fired, but yesterday I noticed a number of things that were, I thought, pretty neat. The first one...

Something to think about. A few words about Fallout 3 .

Having an "alternative" from them would be pretty sweet, too bad the license is not in their hands anymore. And if you think what happened to Fallout is bad, check Jagged Alliance... :P For that one we're not even getting a bad sequel. Not until 2010 at least. Smells like vaporware...

Am I missing something, or is combat really this awful?

I know, my point was that they affect VATS pretty dramatically, and that people getting hits consistently at 15% chance are just getting lucky, at least on my end. It's the RT part that is flawed, since skill means nothing whatsoever in it.

    But was the spirit preserved?

To me, the single most devastating change implemented in Fallout 3 is that some NPCs are unkillable. Anything else I can overlook, and I have to say that, that aside, I'm actually enjoying the game and having good Fallouty memories all through. Alas, I've ecountered four unkillable NPCs so...

Am I missing something, or is combat really this awful?

Oddly enough, my gripe is the opposite. I get a lot of misses in VATS, especially with energy weapons (I'm not exactly well trained in them) but it's easy to hit in real time if you use RMB for aiming and place your crosshair centered on what you want to hit. Even with less than 20 points in...

    Fallout 3 GOAT questions?

Minus the option to actually choose for yourself later on or by giving a certain answer, the GOAT test reminded me a lot of JA2's "IMP" test. I think it was a nice touch. [spoiler:ca8c5f1e09]Too bad the poorly scripted fight with the bully right before the exam killed the atmosphere :P...

Something to think about. A few words about Fallout 3 .

Look man, I know you're disappointed and all, but that is offensive on several levels. Fallout 1 and 2 are, along with Jagged Alliance 2, my favorite games of all time. I have beaten Fallout 2 a dozen times with different characters and approaches, bought it six times (two for me, PC and Mac...

AI is incredibly stupid in this game

Key question here is... can it possibly be *worse* than Oblivion's? :D If I had a penny for all the huge orcish brutes I've killed with arrows after they got stuck under too low a ceiling...

Playing on Very Hard: It Means One Thing Only...

Hey there! Please don't take this post as trolling, because it isn't. I hold Fallout 1 and 2 sacred (along with Jagged Alliance 2) and I have been lurking the forums for ages (hello everyone!) before joining. However... I distinctly remember that, in both original Fallouts, most high...
