Bethesda vs Interplay on Fallout Online

Someone writing an opinion on a game he's barely tried? Surely you want to New Vegas preview threads? Of course comparing 2238 to FO:OL is pointless. One is made by a handfull of guys with no real incentive to grow the playerbase by having to make decisions to allow people access to...

Username, items already degrade. You can use your repair skill to fix them back up a certain number of times, but eventually they'll all end up as useless hunks of wood.

21 is fine. You can still get very capable characters without them having the ability to be amazing at everything.

Won't be so easy without their APA2, only being able to level until 21 and without all the best weapons dropping from the sky ;)

Someone with high first aid/doctor can indeed fill that role. They could also craft stimpacks for use in case someone needs to heal desperately but their Doctor's first aid ability is on cool down :)

Well Something like 1 golden gecko pelt can buy you all 3. Of course a much better idea is to store stuff or bank money, so you're only starting from nothing once.

The tool isn't generally as important as your skills or your profession. Since you can't steal skills or a profession off someone and the tools are generally readily available anyway, I'm not sure I understand.

An Int. 5 Char with tagged Science is able to mine ore/minerals and craft metal/alloys at level 1 - thats hardly an extreme build. With 4% barter a sledgehammer is $46, a hatchet is $31 and a knife is $30, its hardly a massive amount to get a foot on the ladder. You can also just walk to the...

Unarmed is not the only way, its just the easiest way. If you want a nice easy route through the early levels at a decent speed then pump a few points into it and you'll be fine. If you don't want to "waste" points on Unarmed then its only mildly challenging to advance without raising it...

Laslo, An essential part of Unarmed is that it eases your progress through the levels. A key question is do you want to put extra points into unarmed to ease your early progress or do you want to try and scavenge up enough equipment somehow and just pump skill point into your chosen...

For a spear you are talking about 40% melee, or 50% for it to be sharpened and similar values to craft brass/spiked knuckles. Its pretty easy to get to level 2 using those weapons that you can craft using very cheap components at which point you should be able to begin crafting the basic guns...

There are towns where you will have guards enforcing law and order. In any of those you will be (almost) completely safe. Or, as said before, join a faction. An already established one will provide you with an (almost) safe place to store any equipment, some jobs to do, more than likely...

All you need are the files master.dat and critter.dat. Collection and Trilogy should both work perfectly well. In fact I use Collection to play myself.

The mercenary system isn't ready at the moment, so I wouldn't worry about how good they are now. As it is now you can get slaves near 1k cost that are decent enough in combat, up to 50k mercs. I'm sure a lot of things will get shifted around until some sort of balance is reached and we get...

Charisma should be pretty useful. If you want to play as a Trader/Scientist/Doctor then give yourself a good Charisma score, get magnetic personality, save up sufficient money and buy yourself up to 5 bodyguards of varying quality to protect you whilst you service your customers or patients...

The replication fees system is gone, so you will no longer run up any debts just for dying. That should help new players out quite a bit. As for radios, the current plan is that they are still lost upon death. However, as has been mentioned earlier, factions are a key part of the game...
