Some thoughts upon returning to New Vegas

I've recently started a new playthrough of New Vegas and I've been having quite a few thoughts on the subject so figured to write them down, in case they can spark some interesting discussion and hopefully enlighten me a little! I've posted here once or twice and lurked here a lot more, so I...

Amazing news. Well deserved. I bet you guys will be cracking open celebratory beers immediately after hearing the news. What a night!

    Bethesda's Lore Recons

The entire point of PA in Fallout 4 is that it is common but that it has specific systems that more accurately reflect the experience of being inside PA. It is not a cRPG mechanic or a late game treat.

It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down.

I had a big break from Nintendo after the GameCube. Though I must say I'm getting a lot of use out of the Wii U. Some of the enjoyment is probably nostalgia. There's a sense of familiarity and comfort from Nintendo's presentation, but their pure gameplay is so refined and satisfying that it...

It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down.

I dunno, there are a few that aren't necessarily universally hated (that's a strong term) but are genuine disappointments. Mario Sunshine would be one for me. Resident Evil 6 (and 5 for lots of people). The most recent Sim City was a disaster. Fable 3 was a damp squib. Hotline Miami 2 = dud...

I can sense the feeling is deep, but Mario Maker is amazing. Honestly. It's the only reason I own a Wii U but I can't ever see myself regretting the purchase.

It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down.

Fair enough. A great many people adore the game and hold it as a high point in the series. Though that plot twist. Man.

It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down.

Really? There are so many examples that contradict this sentence. Especially in the year MGS V came out. What about Half Life 2? Mario Maker is probably one of the best games I've played in the past 10 years. The Witcher 3. That's pretty good.

So, can we talk about what Fallout 4 does well?

Things I like: Power armor - I know there's a lot of controversy around how early you obtain access to the power armor but I like it. There's a depth to the systems in the power amour this time around, and it makes for a welcome innovation. I'd much prefer that these iterations of Fallout...

    The Love Of Bugs

I can see why people can have affection for some of the quirky bugs that occur. If it doesn't massively affect the game and is slightly amusing, I don't really mind that much. But when they cause issues in your play through then it's clearly a problem. I haven't had any of those yet in Fallout...

So be it. I don't care.

    Wasted Potential

Wasted potential is definitely the change to dialogue. There isn't any reasonable defense for that change.

    Wasted Potential

It's no more of a big deal than horses being the primary mode of transport at a time when people regularly sailed the oceans. There is evidence of travel by sea going back thousands and thousands of years. It is not a stretch of the imagination by even the slightest bit.

    Wasted Potential

The ability to produce polished, gleaming metal is far more antiquated than the ability to light up a sign using electricity.

Sounds like you'll encounter the mission fairly soon. It's not part of the main quest but you'll stumble across it along the way.
