It was bound to happen some day. A group of talented modders with a lot of ideas and enough free time on their hands have begun development of a post-apocalyptic total conversion of the highly moddable 3D action/strategy/roleplaying game Mount&Blade. The project is still at a fairly early stage, so the developers don't have too much to show for just yet, except a heap of nice-looking models and the ugliest logo in the history of bad logo design.

Here is what team member Great Duke has to say about the game:

120 years after nuclear and biological warfare turned an once fertile setting into a barren wasteland, man struggles to survive amidst the ruins of human society.

A post apocalyptic RPG using M&B engine with a deep and immerse world is the purpose here. A totally different look and feel than vanilla too.

Setting: somewhere in central U.S.A, in an area previously unpopulated where survivors fled from the radiation and disease.(e.g: a reservation or a national park)

Technology: Mostly improvised stuff made off remants of the "Old World" . There are crude Energy refineries and factories. Vehicles are rare and are modified to use alcohol and methane as fuel.
Weapons: Firearms are rare , ammunition not so much depending on the type( 9mm, shotgun shells very common).

Locomotion: Motorcycles and horses. I don't see a way of implementing cars to M&B engine, nowhere in the future, specially in combat(see development below).

Civilization: The wastelands is a lawless place. isolated and distant villages and towns represent most of civilization, each with it's own law and powers, while many a man has turned to a barbaric, tribal way of living. an eye for an eye is the most accepted concept of justice all around.Natural resources such as food and water are rare in the barren wasteland, such as medicine and treatment for the numerous lingering dangers so Most people live in poor conditions, and the setting is perfect for "a strong exploit the weak" scenario.
If you wish to learn more about the project or help the team with your suggestions, you can do so in their official forum thread.

None of the Mount & Blade mods I've played with firearms really support their use that well. I'm sure they can make it work, but I dunno.

M&B RPG demonstrated how far the engine can actually go in terms of storytelling, so I guess they can make it work as long as they're better at designing a game than a logo. :?

OMG that looks and sounds great...except for the logo. In fact for all purposes of taking this project seriously I think you should really get rid of that link Ratty...or just let any NMA member here make a quick one in MS paint in less than an hour and send it to them.

is it me or dose the logo has marijuana plants in it?

Sounds like you shouldnt post while high or at least not talking about what makes you high.

Good to see you again Sovz.

O_O Put a paperbag on that logo quick! Why do people still use Paint? Every man and his dawg has adobe photoshop these days....don't they?

I think they will struggle trying to use an engine that was designed for ye olde combat to create their world of guns etc [remember what happened to that nwn fallout mod? I don't] If they are indeed talented then they shall piss on this paragraph.

Good luck to them it'll be a big project!

This is my 10 minute example, comes with probably cr broken googled pics and half arsed thinking.

That logo pic would be decent if they dropped the skull and crossing weapons and used a decent font. Oh, and the name sucks ash. Basically start from scratch.

Also, I never played Mount and Blade. Is the current beta not gonna make me pull my hair out in frustration?

How the small-time devs from M&B got horse riding combat right while Beth was saying it was too difficult is sort of funny.

Good luck for the modding crew, they will surely need it...

Horse riding? Cool :D I always like to watch a "Postman" movie.

They have very good looking armour/clothes models (I like their design).

Good luck with the mod guys.

Post-apocalyptic horseriding!

I honestly would believe a horses would survive the war sooner than functioning vehicles. Horses need just food and shelter, but vehicles need to be kept in good condition with constant maintainance by various manafactured goods (harder to get than food) and a shelter that would survive the war (unlikely). Also horses make more of themselves...vehicles dont.

I think by that you meant "they should make a new logo" however when I first read it I thought you meant it should be titled "Start from Scratch" and that actually sounds like an awesome title.

Ha, Start From Scratch. Hmmm....I like it, too! I take credit. Ok guys, dump the Out of the Ashes, Ash Hole, Piece of Ash or whatever the current title is and go with my new accidental clever one.

Would make sense too, as a post-apocalyptic title. We'll have to remember this one for one of the Fallout 3 mods we'll no doubt have to make to fix Bethesda's...mistakes.
