Beginners Guide to Fallout:Equestria

The Brony community isn't exactly the best community on the Internet, as they're pretty.. Err. Annoying. But something that can definitely be remembered from them is their literature. Fan fiction runs deep within every fandom from Superman to The Walking Dead and you're bound to get fanfiction that looks like it deserves to be published as a real book. One such example, and in my opinion, is Fallout Equestria

Introduction to Fallout:Equestria

Fallout Equestria is a popular fanfiction within the Brony fandom, described as brutal, heartwarming, and legendary. This fanfiction was originally made in 2011 and since then has been the only fanfiction on Equestria Daily to achieve the LEGENDARY title.

Fallout Equestria is, described in a nutshell, "Fallout... With ponies!"

But its roots run much deeper.

Fallout Equestria takes place in an alternate universe where the continent ruled by the three horse variations, normal horses(Earth Ponies), Unicorns, and Pegasi, fell into a resource war with an unnamed continent which was inhabited by Zebras. During the end of the Resource Wars, Equestria and the Zebra Empire(non-canon name) launched what is called "Megaspells" at each other, effectively destroying all life on earth. However, not all ponies in Equestria parished from the Megaspells. Many were relocated into underground testing facilities known as "Stables" in which they would live out their days forever.

The original canon story, only named "Fallout:Equestria", takes place in an unknown year with the main character being a commonly thought Unicorn with grayish fur, green eyes, and a light brown mane. During her life in Stable 2 her crush, and Stable celebrity, Velvet Remedy, asks her to take off and recalibrate her "Pipbuck" (Pipbucks are basically Pipboy 3000's.) but little to Littlepip's knowledge is that Velvet wishes to leave the Stable for unknown reasons and if her Pipbuck is released she can easily sneak out of the Stable and leave without the Overmare(basically overseer) tracking her down and killing her or capturing her.

Littlepip happily agrees but is later blamed by most of the Stable for their idol being stolen from them in which Littlepip decides it is her duty to find and save Velvet Remedy, and thus the story of Fallout:Equestria kicks off through 45 chapters filled with enough words to end world hunger twenty eight times over.

Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons
By Somber

A non-canon story but the most popular side story based off of Fallout Equestria, this story takes on a much more darker and arguably edgier side of Fallout Equestria featuring a character named "Blackjack." The story kicks off with Blackjack sitting inside her Stable, wishing for something to do. Soon(and I mean a million chapters later. This story takes a long while to build up.) Blackjack meets "P-21". A stallion who's sole purpose is to help repopulate and keep the Stable populated due to them not taking in outsiders. Later on in the story the Stable is raided by what seems to be a raider gang who's leader is a pony clad in armor, named "Deus" and Blackjack and P-21 flee the Stable in hopes of escaping the slaughter that takes place in their home and to keep a hidden document which Deus wants.

Both Blackjack and Littlepip develop heavily as character and while both having similar goals in helping the wasteland, both show many important differences.
Blackjack is extremely lazy and straightforward, charging straight into battle and killing everything that is shooting at her while Littlepip is much better at avoiding fights all together through sneaking and developing plans to take down her enemies without putting her in harms way.

While the two do both show that they regret their killing Littlepip can recover much faster due to her paragonal attitude of believing what she did was the right thing while Blackjack runs on self-pity and is even heavily mentally scared throughout her story.
Both also go through drug trips and withdrawals with Littlepip knowing about the benefits and drawbacks of her addiction to one drug while Blackjack will go as far as to use several different drugs and alcohol at the same time without any thought of the drawbacks.

Long story short, both good characters. If you like morally grey main characters, go for Project Horizons. Like paragon characters who only want the good of things? See Fallout:Equestria.

And no, you don't have to know much background lore about either of these stories to get a lot of things. Some things are references to My Little Pony's TV show, but not so many that they keep you from reading.

And that is it for the beginners guide to Fallout:Equestria and if you wish to read either of these stories I will put two links down. Thanks for reading.

I'm ready for the negative comments

Anyway, I once enjoyed watching My Little Pony. Lost interest around season 3 or 4. I remember reading a little bit of Fallout: Equestria. However, I got bored a few chapters in. I also read its own wiki, and so far there seems to be many parallels between Fallout: Equestria and Fallout in general. Which isn't a bad thing, I just like fan fiction to be more separate from their source material. Never heard of Project Horizons, sounds more interesting in my opinion. I'll be sure to give it a read sometime. :D

This is... lame actually.

The story is lackluster... the characters (Project Horizon are okay, but even then, they do the edgy thing way too much) meh...

I don't know, I dislike them.

Project Horizons has a bunch of buildup. Blackjack leaving her vault takes an entire chapter while Fo:E makes Littlepip leave in the tenth paragraph. PH takes a bit to build up until it gets more exciting but it's actually really good when it's not slow. Its actually finished now and Somber(its creator) is already on Chapter 5 or 4 of a spinoff story of his spinoff of a fanfiction spinoff spinoff story spinoff.

I've never read Fallout Equestria, although from what I've heard about them, they are probably the most lore-accurate Fallout fanfic ever written.

Been wanting to check it out for the longest time, but I'm still a little iffy, what with the characters being ponies and all. How in-your-face are the MLP elements?

Like.. I don't get what you're saying. Are you saying how is the "FRIENDSHIP AND HAPPINESS IS EVERYTHING"?

It's not that happy. There's some happy and comedic moments, but most of the fanfics are death, murder, sadness, and other dark elements.

Yeah, pretty much what I was asking. Just curious as to how much similarities there are with the show, or if the only thing they have in common is ponies.
