Bethesda hunting down Fallout 3 leak

All the world will be your enemy, Pirate with a Thousand enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; stealer, leaker, torrenter, thief with the swift warning. Be an asshole, and full of tricks, and we'll hope your people will still be destroyed.
When we contacted Bethesda Software about the matter, Pete Hines responded "We're looking into it. Since we haven't sent out a single disc, it greatly reduces the number of places this might have come from." Time will tell if the version that leaked was an older build from Bethesda or retail copy that may have been swiped from a manufacturing plant. It's unknown on whether or not the leaked version is the final code for Fallout 3.
Link: Fallout 3 leaked.

Thanks a bag of tangerines.

Good, if there's one thing I don't tolerate is pirating of movies and music, whoever and whatever the company/person/game/music is.

Don't worry Todd, this leak has given us a lot of useful info!

Seconded.

Now juxtapose this info to what we've been hearing from "exclusive reviews".

Ouch much?

I wonder when a game company is going to be smart enough to make every pre-release copy they send out slightly different, so they can always find the leak.

Sounds like it's time for someone to run for the border.

Also, I don't really think this was their final version. I could be wrong though. *shrugs* But it did not seem very polished to me.

Playable, and "just alright", but certainly not a grand work of art.

... anyway I can hope it's not the final release, right? :P

I have nothing against internet piracy, but I hate oathbreakers. Someone signed an NDA and then just released the game like this...
I hate when it happens.

And the last time I heard "we're looking into it" it meant "we have no idea who did it, so we'll fire the whole beta testing team that worked with us for last 3 years.".

How logical is it that the copy that got pirated, and maybe even ended up in the European reviewers' desk, was the demo copy, but without someone telling you to stop after 4 hours, it was technically a "full" version? I think there were a lot more openings for theft with that version than the gold copy. A gold copy would almost have to be internal, IMO.

This is genius, BTW.

As posted above, this seems like an inside job.

Since they didn't send out discs yet (the reviewers didn't have copies then?) it seems they're know who did it.

I hope they post who is was and FIRE THEM!

I agree, anyone that promises to do one thing and does another is untrustworthy. And while the information is helpful to those unsure of the game or just as evidence to confirm their own thoughts, I can't respect anyone that willfully damages their own company for what exactly?

A few hits on a site? Recognition by cheap strangers? Seriously, why? Unless they're getting paid big bucks I don't see a motivation.

How does this damage Beth? The game will still sell tons of copies, and Todd and Pete will be able to make love to many beautiful women on a large pile of US greenbacks.

Stop whining about piracy... sheesh.

Next in inside the vault: The guy who pirated Fallout 3 and was hang up after this interview.

"Hey you, we told ya, we get ya. And now..."

Or just mount a big number in the left-hand corner of your screen, or something.

Let's just close all libraries because Stephen King doesn't like when people use his intellectual property for free.

It's not normal piracy. It's easy to speak it when you don't have a personal experience with oathbreakers. I lost my source of free games (like in CDs and manual sent to me in box) that I wouldn't be otherwise able to afford because one of them.

Maybe leaking a game is the gaming industry replacement of going to work with a shotgun and a rifle and killing everything that moves.
Maybe a disgruntled Fallout fan couldn't bear the stress of taking part in raping of Fallout and finally snapped and released the game :P .
