BOS = Facist?

Junkmaster
How many people think that the BOS got a bit Facist in Tactics. From what they were in Fallout 1, or even in decline in FO2, would you want to join the BOS in Tactics?

The Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 1 was neat, a small group of elite warriors and brainy scientists, the very select country club of the post-apocalyptic age. I wouldn't get within a hundred miles of the rude and crude Brotherhood of Tactics.

Hey, the extermination squads and crucifictions. A bit hard on the survivors, ya think? No wonder they got kicked out of the brotherhood. Or maybe that was just Barnakey.

But the Brotherhood in Tactics really didn't give people choices if they wanted to join up, they were like a hi-tech press gang.

"We'll provide you with protection and you provide us with with fresh troops. WETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. WE HAVE POWER ARMOR AND MINIGUNS...."

Is the feeling I got from them...

I'll stick with the original brotherhood. They were a small closeknit community that watched out for one another.

It seems that the brotherhood now has turned into a bar complete with all sorts of thugs and seedy women.

They were acting like wannabe Nazis trying to colonize what was left of the wasteland. A bit fascist? Very fascist i would say.

According to Civ III Conquests Civlopedia, Fascist government promise a return to a glorious past, or to a gloruious future.

When the Shoe fits But heck, Free Healthcare, Steady Paycheck, cheap ammo, isnt it more than what many workers have today?

Extremely fascist :)

Militaristic, expansive, and justifying violence with a perspective of a New Wasteland Order, ridding it from the filth by exterminating anyone that doesn't obey the Brotherhood's generals.

You're either with us, or with the terrorists.

I used to have an image of FOT's PA with a Brotherhood standard in the background. It was basically a Nazi Germany flag, but swastika's been replaced with a black BOS emblem. There was some german saying on it too.

And then I was told by moderators to remove the image because it was 'offensive' to imaginary victimized jews or veterans or whatever.

The BOS are actually a bunch of pussies. They make you destroy the military base by yourself, you have to steal the vertibird plans for them and then destroy the enlcave by yourself, and then in Fallout Tatics you do EVERYTHING with a bunch of tribal slap dicks meanwhile their fully armed forces just sit on their asses and wait for you to save them.

That bugged me too.

General Twit:"2 of our elite squads got slaughtered. You have to go in, save the survivors, secure the area, and bring their sorry asses back"
Me: "Uhhhh... Ok... What about some hardware then?"
General Twit: "You will find the APC on the spot, but you'll have to walk there. You can get your weapons from the quartermaster, assuming you have a massive amount of money"

*Me walks to armoury, buys stuff, goes to mission area, kills all of the damn big muties with shotguns and assault rifles, saves the elite soldiers, drives back, shoots the general and stops playing Tactics*

wouldn't have joined them on any of the games 'cept that i needed the armours and weapons

i'd much rather join the khans hahaha

Well the Brotherhood is kind of the result of the conditions they live in. Where as most of the rest of the population is scavenging what is left of the old world the Brotherhood tries to locate find this knowledge and technology, study and reproduce it and make sure that its preserved and available for future generations.

Well comparing the Brotherhood of Tactics with that of FO1 and FO2, they are kind of facist but they do offer services and goods the old Brotherhood didn't want to share or provide; medicines and limited technology for supplies and such. And protection against raiders and violent mutants in exchange for new personnel.

Yes it was stupid to see dozens of troops in power armour, holding the best hardware while you had to scavenge and buy all the supplies you needed. (why does a guard need power armour?)

Personally I would have made the Quartermaster and healer scribe supply system different. A system that would be based on experience points and rank within the Brotherhood.

Someone posted and interview talking about the plot to F3 and in it you can either help the brotherhood (yet again, fucking pussies) or you could destroy them. I would definately kill every power armor wearing pansy.

Aaaah - one of my favorite moments in FO1 was slaughtering the BoS with my pure rat-bastard character. Turbo Plasma to the eyes.

Well, the BOS in FOT was handled very, very poorly. It's been covered to death hundreds of times, but it basically boils down to a bunch of upper level designers not having a friggin' clue about Fallout and Fallout 2's Brotherhood. They got more things wrong than right. If they really wanted an institution that the player was a part of in FOT that was like that, they shouldn't have made it the Brotherhood of Steel.
