Well, it was a busy month for many of us and we got a pile of submissions, but after lots of reading and a short period of fisticuffs over which one was the best, we're ready to present the results.

Running away with first prize and his very own poster print of Defonten art is Tucker. He had a lot of competition to fight off, and we'd like to congratulate him on his win.

Closely behind Tucker are the two stories by Kirby Go and Aaron Moyer, both of whom just missed the grand prize but are still worthy of publishing here.

We'd like to thank everyone who competed. A lot of you clearly struggled with our word limit which, in hindsight, was probably tuned down a bit too low. Regardless, and also despite some of our ESL readers struggling with their English, it was interesting to see what a flurry of ideas and alternatives boomed in from the community. While I wouldn't advise Bethesda to put one of these pieces up instead of Emil's, there sure isn't any shortage of ideas here.

We invite all our contest submitters to head over to this forum and submit their entry for all to read. We'd also like to thank our jury of Ausir, Murdoch, Per, welsh and Brother None for their jurying work.

Also, if you're morbidly curious, here's a shortlist of finalists that only just didn't make it, posted at the insistence of welsh: Russo, Dutch Ghost, Octotron and Garrot.

Strong entries there, too. Hope you guys'll post in the fan fic thread!

Yip.

Your entry in particular showed that we really made a mistake on the word limit, and that it should've been at least 1400 (probably more). But again, we did have to read it all, and it was quite a lot.

But you could tell your story kind of suffered under being hacked down too much.

Hello Brother None,

Yes my entry was a lot bigger initially and when I had problems cutting it back I asked two friends if they could help me scale it down and edit some of the contents.

I wonder, should I post the original or just the entry I sent in?

The Dutch Ghost said:
Yeah, but I don't think you people would like it should I start 'removing' members of NMA.

Personally, I enjoy solving mysterious murders.

So I'm going to close my eyes and count to a million and when I open them I want to see a whole pile of corpses.

Fun fact of the day: counting to one million will take you 11.5 days (longer if you take breaks to eat or sleep).

I really dig Kirby Go's entry. It's pretty unique, and has a real character to it. Best of all, the actual premise of a bunch of thugs usurping the Brotherhood's name for their own means really works for me. The other two were a bit "meh" to me, but they beat my entry, so thumbs up.

Kirby Go was my personal favourite, actually. But the jury vote is final.

I liked your entry, it was in my first short-list of about 6 candidates. But while it was imaginative and well-written, your got a bit on the inconsistent and/or weird side of things too much.

Yeah, I definitely tried to do a bit much, only to lead toward a fairly simplistic ending. I could have used the same "twist" in a more focused, and less roundabout way.

On reflection, "meh" is probably overly harsh. They were all good, I just thought Kirby's was great.

Just wanted to add my congratulations to the winner(s) and say thanks for the contest. I was glad to have the opportunity to refine my own thoughts on the subject (and read those of others).

Out of the three stories presented I must say I enjoyed Kirby Go's most. The others are good as well, of course, but Kirby offered the most intersting and original and compelling idea (in my very humble opinion), an idea which incidentally could explain the grunt-like behavior of BoS soilders featured in the demo, as noted by BN. Refrences to the chosen one's escapades were a nice touch. Higher word limit probably would've helped, and I find the initial BoS encounter and its outcome a little fantastic, but I really like the general plot motive.

Congratulations to everybody that submitted, escpecially to Tucker and the runner ups, for having the motivational will to get off their asses and contribute. Its been a pleasure thus far. Thank You. I look forward to reading the rest of the entries as they surface.

Question to Aaron Moyer: Just wondering, did you actually finish the whole of Paradise Lost? I'm still navigating my way through its first quadrant, after a few months of (sporadic) intensive "reading". It's a mighty convoluted piece of work. Mon respect if you managed to tame the literary beast.

These were excellent reads all three. Amazing A grade work.

My favourite was Kirby Go's -- not only was it enjoyable reading, it felt like Fallout for me, a natural and smooth progression of the story.

Since I still have the blind poet on the brain let me toss out one of the only quotes I recall as it seems fitting in the context - "The superior man acquaints himself with sayings of antiquity and many deeds of the past, in order to strengthen his character."
