Can the Brotherhood be defended anymore?

Alternative School

First time out of the vault
To quote House the Brotherhood are just a bunch of terrorist. Look how in New Vegas where they murder Followers of the Apocalypse in cold blood. In 4 they get even worse becoming essentially Caesars Legion with gender equality. They have no real purpose now that the most technology has been reintroduced at some level to the Wasteland. All they do now is kill and break things, raiders with delusions of morality, basically Caesars Legion.

FO1 allready puts into question their viability as an organization, they´re presented as imperfect, and their fate could be considered foreshadowed allready then

By FO2 they´re presented as pretty incompetent all in all

FO Tactics shows them as cruel invaders, at least for the first third or half, you pretty much play as a heartless invading force, enslaving, terrorizing civilians etc. This branch or iteration is presented as pretty much indefensible, especially in how civilians will talk to you about it.

FO3 I don´t even know... no, I´ll take them as face value, and at face value, they´re bumbling, incompetent morons

FONV brings back to the BOS of FO1 and FO2, the diminishing, isolated, misguided cult

FO4 seems to want to allude to FOTactics, so much so, they stole the airship idea right from there, also bringing back the militarism, conquering type of M.O.

If we are to continue taking these iterations at face value, we got no choice but to consider them different branches that once originated with a single organiation, but have since become independent of each others. One is a techno-cult in decline, with only a handful of members. Another is an invading militaristic force, presumably with stretches of territory under their control.
The latter *could* be defended, in the sense that they seek to unify and "tame" the land, peace through subjugation and such. Then again, they´re being needlessly bigoted about it, with the whole enclave-esque "only pure humans allowed" vibe

My answer would be "no." I guess :V

Nah. The Brotherhood was fucked from the start. They just can't adapt to the wasteland, no matter what they do. Simply put; the Capital, the Mojave, the NCR, none of them have any place for a slow to mobilize force of xenophobic marauders. And the Commonwealth seriously has no place for them under Elder Maxson. Under Lyons and wayyy back with Rogers they were at least tolerable, but they make enemies wherever they go. It adds up quickly

Nah they don't have a future. As Veronica mentioned in FNV, the BOS expected that everyone else would eventually die off and they would inherit the Earth and this time rebuild civilization properly (what is properly), and even on that the BOS could not agree. (Father Elijah)

In my own Fallout ideas I wanted to kill of the West Coast BOS, leaving only the Mojave chapter that did have a treaty with the NCR and perhaps a few other chapters eking out a pathetic existence as their numbers continued to decline.

In my Fallout Texas idea the player would meet a paladin that went East after he witnessed how the Elders blew up Lost Hills when the NCR came too close.
He was already disillusioned with the Elders as he was not sure about the mission of the BOS any more and seeing Lost Hills explode, also killing the civilians of the town of Maxson completely shattered his faith.

From there the player could either convince the paladin that perhaps a technology police is needed to make sure that the new societies of the wasteland would not destroy themselves with recovered pre war technology (by keeping these out of the hands of ignorant civilians).
He would return to the West Coast and try to get as many BOS survivors together to restart the organization.

Or

The player could convince him to join the Followers of the ATLANTIS, a para military organization of post humanist cyborg traders that are led by an artificial intelligence called ATLANTIS that sells any technology and knowledge if someone can meet their price but don't always ask if buyers can handle these technologies responsibly.
He would teach the Followers the responsibility that would come with having such technologies and that it is sometimes better to wait with selling certain knowledge until people are ready for it.
In time he would become one of the AI's lieutenants and main advisors and in honor of his old organization the Followers would rename one of their elite defender squads Steel Squad.

The Circle of Steel would come looking for the paladin but would be met up by him and Steel Squad and he would tell the COS to return to the West Coast as there is nothing for them in Texas. (should they cause problems ATLANTIS could crush the COS like ants as it knows all the technical specs on Pre War military technology including Power Armor and what its weaknesses are)

the brotherhood of steel is trying to wipe the wasteland clean of any threats and especially the Enclave (and their communist plans) and when certain people seem too powerful and dangerous, it could potentially ruin any chances of rebuilding civilization.

the Enclave (and their communist plans)

The Enclave communist? They were the most American jingoists you could find. They considered everyone who were outside their own population not to be human, let alone Americans because a lot of outsiders barely remember the US.

in fallout 3 liberty prime says "Better dead than red!" red referring to communism or "the Red Menace" in the Cold War and liberty prime says this as they are attacking the Enclave

they want to control America and created the vaults(yeah, vault-tec works with the Enclave) to experiment on people and create weapons meant for killing everything

Liberty Prime is also a reprogrammed automaton warmachine with effectively no actual intelligence outside of its combat perogatives. It has no actual concept of who its fighting. I'm really not sure how you miss the joke of Liberty Prime.

How does this make them communist?
