For Fallout 4, our goal was to make Mods easier and more accessible than ever before – for both the creators and the players. By building an all-new system with Bethesda.net we’ve made a huge leap forward in achieving that.

You can now browse and search for the latest and greatest Mods, choose your favorites, post feedback, and install them – all within the game. Simply select Mods from the main menu, and start browsing.

For console players, Mods will be coming to Xbox One in May and PlayStation 4 in June.

You will need to have Steam Beta update 1.5 to access Bethesda.net mods in game.

You can get the Creation Kit at the following link by downloading the Bethesda.net Installer:

I don't think we'll know for sure until the Beta is over, but for once I hope I'm wrong about the "lock mods to Bethesda.net" thing. Nothing here indicates a platform lock, but nothing here explicitly states that downloading mods from third-party sites is a viable option either.

Also, did certain modders get early access or something? If not, that means Bethesda made dummy mods just for this video. Making dummy mods for the Bethesda.net browser demonstration that includes things that should have been features on release is hilarious. That's like tripping down a flight of stairs and then sticking a poster next to those stairs saying "I fell down here once!".

I'm pretty sure that's not the case here, but it's still funny to think about. The funniest part of this is that Bethesda actively advertising the fact that they have a "mods will fix it" attitude and that they're pretty much proud of it. "Hey, everyone! Here's an entire video dedicated to telling you how you'll be able to do our work for us!"

I thought it was more tongue-in-cheeck friendly rather than secretly mocking.

And ZigzagPX4, I think you're being too cynical in your outlook on Beth's intentions with this trailer. They could be parodying themselves a little, which is what I thought.

Bethesda.net instaler? No, thank you. I already have got steam and I don't want to exorcise my PC after installing their application that will corrupt all the main files of my system.

This also looks like they want to lock down creation kit to their site, so others can not post mods on Nexus. If this happens, I am going to enjoy seeing it all burn and finally letting it all go.

At this point, it is pretty clear that they don't give a flying fuck about the PC crowd anymore and gone full console. I might be wrong, but I have the feeling that almost any decision is dominated by "how can we make it better for console". Not how to offer the best experience for each platform. Otherwise, I don't understand why they have to change things here. It worked for years. Sell the game, relase the creation kit. That's it. No third party service, no downloader, no steam crap. Just let the people do their stuff. And in my opinion, it worked perfectly well. For what it was meant to be. Aditional content by the community. Why the reason to change this? If not to either monetize it at some point, or to stream line everything so that it is more in line with the console experience.

I thought ... that's already Fallout 4?

It was said IIRC that all of Bethesda.net's mods will be accessible to consoles, which means simpler mods that don't require a script extender will be all that the site has to offer, which implies it has been designed for consoles and the Nexus should operate as it has.

I still find it amusing that they're trying to legitimize and commercialize mods. It's nearly insulting. Paid mods are almost certain to make a resurgence.

It would be their undoing. If Nexus users aren't required to pay for their mods, many of which are more complex and/or require a script extender, it would be expected that console users woul feel wronged by that.

LMAO, hosting the unofficial patch, they have no shame.
either at best they would including unofficial patch at regular patc, worse, from now on all patch will available through community because "we care and love them" :)

Console players already have to pay to play online, they'd probably lap this up as well.

I knew it. They're trying to consolidate mods to their site. (Looks like I stand corrected on how long it was going to take to bring this out, but it still came after the two stuff DLCs, which they told us wouldn't happen, so...)

EDIT: Just as well, it looks like there's been a massive drop-off of players since launch.

If modders will make their PC mods bethesda.net-exclusive without having a mirror on nexusmods, well it's only them to damn becuase CK allows you to save your mod on PC offline. (CK beta atleast)
Just to be fair. The real troubles will begin when Bethesda will lock this option.

So, is this strictly bad?
We can now make maps. There are some tools. That's good, i guess.
Oh, it's definitely good.
But they're also quite blatantly trying to push their own site for mod distribution. That opens the door for paid mods (as I said earlier, my bet is that they'll try "premium" mods first).
Bethesda actually had kinda "official" mods for Morrowind, called "official plug ins". Stuff like a new set of armor, entertainers, sounds, stuff that modders do now.
If you can only install mods using Bethesda.net functionality it will monopolise mods, and thus easily enable more paid mods.
I'd love to see them try...

The monopoly is there, at least for consoles. It's not they would make a collaboration with Nexus - they expect modders to migrate their mods on the Bethesda' modstore to make them available for consoles for broader public. This is something Nexus can't do.
