Dealing with the NCR Mercs at Jacobstown

I know this is a pretty minor quest as New Vegas goes, but I was wondering how you folks dealt with it.

ALso, lets say you decide to assassinate all the mercs except Norton (the ole pickpocket a live frag round trick), and then deal with Norton peacefully (speech 65 or the idolized NCR answer), return to Marcus, end quest, then kill Norton on the road out of town. DOes this lead to a negative ending for Jacobstown?

I had Marcus fork up the caps to pay them off... but I kind of wish I'd blown them all away.
 
Lied to Marcus to get 3000 caps. Then conviced them to leave not wanting to offend the NCR at that stage of the game. Then killed everyone in Jacobstown for XP and supplies.
 
My usual method is to use the speech check, though on my last playthrough I banked on my status as a big-time hee-ro of the NCR instead of skill.
 
I have solved it the three ways posible, but there was this time when a Cazador spawned near them and killed them.
 
Yeah, I thought about the Cazadors, but I wanted to test the pickpocket a frag plan. It nets good supplies.

Then talk to Norton and you still get to do the speech check. Returned to Marcus, got the good quest ending.

Its just that he was running into a stone on the way out and couldn't seem to get around it so a sniper bullet to the head seemed idea. Besides he's a merc, a paid killer, so no great lose to humanity.

I just don't want to doom Jacobstown in the process. Guess I will find out when this ends.
 
First time Cazadore had done the job, but I didn't like that, so I reloaded, and did the speech check.
I'm a peaceful man.
 
I use the speech check, there's no reason to screw the mutants more than they already are. :cool:
If I want to fuck Jacobstown I simply don't do the quest "Guess Who I Saw Today".

As a note, you don't need idolized status, accepted with the NCR is enough.

I prefer to use the speech check. While they are hired guns, working for a bigot, they're still hired workforce. I'd sooner kill the person who sent them, rather than shoot the messenger. Cut off the snake's head, rather than slash its bum.
 
And pass up all that loot? Two sniper rifles, four sets of metal armor and helmets, two plasma rifles, an assault rifle, grenades, etc.

Good loot if you can get it. And I never did the pick-pocket live frag thing before.
 
By the time you reach Jacobstown you should be far enough in the game that you don't really need that loot. It's not worth the NCR infamy.
 
I used my NCR status to send them packing, and talked to Marcus immediately after.

Then I ran back out, and I crouched and headshotted the generic mercs from the up on the hill/cliff side to the right of the jacobstown gate (if you are facing the town), one at a time using silenced sniper rifle with one shot of JSP each, starting with the last man in line so nobody saw the others fall.

It took a while so Norton got a looong way off and almost over a hill before I took his head clean off from behind as he was backlit against the sky.

Not sure if I doomed the muties, but it seemed like the best of both worlds.

True, by that time I already had a Sniper Rifle with all the mods and barely needed any of what they had.

Plus, I like Marcus, I don't want harm to befell on him. Or his town.
 
I don't see how anyone cannot slaughter Jacobstown, its a ripe targect, plenty of supplies, xp, and gets you closer to the mutant massacre achievement without dealing with the more danerous ones at black mountain, just be sure to wait for after you complete arcades quest. The biggist plus is no one cares. Novacs also another great location for for a hit and run, kill everyone, steal everything raid but it will piss off the NCR and thier are like 3 quest that you won't be able to do.

Its not like the guys are going to last long anyway. The Legion has no love for mutants and would probably attack just to give thier soldiers good practice and the NCR are not known for their love for them anyway. Really thier only hope is if vegas goes independant cause if anyone gets full control they'll be the first to go.

As I said Novac is also a great target, maybe the best one in terms of resistance and loot, but you it will make you an enemy of the NCR and kill off the best companion.
 
Well... Slaughtering innocents is ok if you're roleplaying a psychopath, or at least a sociopath. I tend to be goody two shoes in my games so...
