Destroying doors

I'm wondering how many ways there are to destructively open doors; I haven't seen this enumerated anywhere. I know dynamite/plastic explosives work on some. They're also targetable in combat – do any weapons have an effect?

The crowbar can be used to open some doors. In NCR for example (the door behind Dupo [the dwarf next to Westin's ranch entrance]).

Doesn't work. Still produces the "that doesn't even put a scratch on the door" message. Strength 10, melee weapons 160% if those make a difference.

To my knowledge, the doors in the VC vault (the two (jammed ones) on level 2 can be opened that way.

I'm not the kind of guy who talks without knowing. From Per's Guide :

Check out both tables at Duppo's (restock in 1-6 days, but there's no money to speak of). You could get a HK P90c for Sulik and a Combat Armor for yourself if you have the spare weaponry to trade in. He also sells Power Fists for you to upgrade in New Reno. Duppo will give you quest 12 if you ask for work. To enter the craps hall, you need at least Gambling 51%, and you must not have accepted quest 12 yet. Ask Duppo for work, then ask if there's another way to make a quick buck. Depending on your Speech you can pay him from $100 to $500 for the password to the door, but it's not much fun in there (Den-style craps table, you can steal $1000 from the croupier). If you have ST 9 you can take a Crowbar to the door instead.

P.S : you got to use the crowbar on the door, like you would use Micro Fusion Cells on the car. Don't use the crowbar as a weapon in this case.

Huh. Thought I tried that before and it didn't work, but it seems to now.

Anyway, are there any weapons that work in general, or is dynamite/plastic explosives the only way?

in Klamath you can break doors with a simple spear.

i think the weapon isn't important...

That is very correct, you don't even need a weapon at all, a kick or a punch will do.
For sturdier doors, grenades and molotovs can be used instead of dynamite. I just tried with the rocket launcher and it works as well.

Okay, rockets and frag grenades work, though not every time. Plasma grenades do nothing. And I just spent ten minutes beating on a wooden door with fists and crowbars, without any effect. Are there any skill or stat checks that affect whether it works or not?

@ Kanhef, I believe it depends on what door you try to open. In Klamath there are several "generic locked doors" using the script zilckdor.int, those are the easier doors that you can punch in.
I tried with strength 1 and unarmed skill 50%, I could still punch them open.

The door in the rat caves and the one in Dunton's house use the script KSCVDoor.int. I think those can only be opened with "explosive damage".

If the frags and rockets don't work every time, is it possible your skill is not so high and you "miss" the door sometimes?

Ah, that makes much more sense now. I'm not familiar with maps and scripting, and hadn't realized there could be a variety of scripts controlling how different doors work. I must have just kept trying the wrong ones.

Did a bit more testing; looks like rockets always work on wooden doors, if they're destroyable. Metal doors can take more than one shot. AP rockets seem to work better than explosive ones, but I haven't tested that rigorously yet.
