Seems Dishonored 2 is coming out this year on 11th of November. Not a lot of game-play demonstrations before today aside from the stuff shown at the E3 conference. It does seem like promising and fun (though I'm doubt it will be a great realistic stealth game). I think the game will probably be another power fantasy trip like its predecessor though that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Any thoughts about this? (Also if there is an existing thread about this, feel free to take this one down)
Seemed interesting. I liked the first Dishonored, so hopefully Arkane made a decent sequel. Only thing that worries me a bit is that you can play as Emilly or Corvo, and the story seems much better suiting for Emily as the PC. Hoping that if I play as Corvo, the story works just as well.
I really liked the first Dishonored. The universe was original, the story was believable and mature, and the mystery was very well implemented. It was humble too, didn't try to reinvent its genre. It could run on a potato too, which was nice.
It was respectful and mature towards the audience : didn't hold your hands, didn't tell you "this is bad, this is good". Your actions weren't judged, but you had to face the consequences. You were treated as an adult, capable of judgement, and it was refreshing.
I'll probably buy it, if the critics say that it keeps the same policy. As much as the first trailer worried me, this one is reassuring.
I'm a bit confused over choosing Stephen Russell as the voice for Corvo. In the first Dishonored Corvo was basically a mute, now he's suddenly voiced by a charismatic thief/ghoul, it seems like they should've chosen a more low-key voice actor.

I'm glad that it's not another batman clone whispering in a raspy voice, like that dude from Person of Interest who even cracks jokes in that voice. Really looking forward to this one - the design of that game is badass. It makes up for all the shitty carbon copy first-person games out there

I guess they wanted to make themselves more like a spiritual successor to the Thief series even more so they got the original voice actor (Stephen Russell) of Thief's main character, Garrett, to play the part. He even sounds similar to him at some parts. I welcome this change (mostly because of how good Stephen Russell was as Garrett), hopefully this breathes life and personality into the previously mute Corvo.

I get your point, but too much of a low-key voice could contradict Corvo's past as court sword master. He had to teach people how to fight like a gentleman, and for that I can only imagine a firm, quiet but inquisitive voice. With a slight accent to hint his past as a low born citizen (they all seem Irish in Dunwall, somehow) and a broken tone to hint his recent years of grief. In the end, the Empress trusts him to deliver diplomatic missions, so it's safe to assume that he knows how to speak with some charisma.
I would have rather seen Simon Templeman though. The man could have rocked, as Corvo. Just listen :
Gonna revive this thread since it's 3 months before Dishonored 2 comes out.
(Dunno why gaming news media are more excited about the cool ways to kill people in Dishonored 2 over the various intelligent means to stealthily circumnavigate obstacles though admittedly the clips are showcasing killing methods)
New trailer's out. Seems Corvo's old tricks has some new twists to them (and Stephen Russell really is channelling old Garrett which is really striking a lot of good chords in me):
I am excited for it too. Against better judgement, I pre-ordered the collector edition which comes with that cool Corvo Mask. I only made this decision after they showed that bit of gameplay at E3 which looked promising.
i'm looking forward to it. i bought Dishonored on a whim, not knowing the first thing about it, and i thought it was phenomenal. not just the gameplay, but the atmosphere and character design are great too. the no-kill ghost run was extremely challenging, and it is a legitimate way to finish the game. there's a pacifistic way to eliminate every single one of your assassination targets, and the game responds accordingly to your play style, whether it be low or high chaos.
and i guess Delilah wasn't killed after all? i didn't expect her to be the main antagonist, but i like it. i read a theory that Delilah is actually the Empress's half-sister (bastard heir—born with a copper spoon in her mouth) which would explain her obsession with claiming the throne. she did say she grew up with Jessamine, but doesn't elaborate further. my guess is that Emily is deposed somehow and Delilah takes her place.
additionally, the promo images look incredible. i loved the watercolor style of Dishonored, i'm glad they're continuing the trend with the oil-painted, vaguely Impressionist aesthetic. it's very decadent.
I am excited to play the game though I expect the story will not be anything special (like the first). It's the gameplay and the writing for the world's lore that will decide whether the game will be amazing. It already has bonus points from me though due to Stephen Russell's performance.
As long as they don't pull off something like a Squeenix move (i.e Mankind Divided's single-player one-time use micro-transactions), Arkane should be fine (even I can doubt Bethesda is stupid to do such a thing though I'm open to be proven wrong).

The fromula worked first time, let's hope Bethesda realizes it should work fine the second time.
Honestly, I'm so excited for this game. It might be a fresh air for this year.
After Mankind Divided's issues (it's not a bad game on its own but it is definitely hampered by issues Squeenix hoisted on the game), I'm hoping Dishonored 2 will be one of the triple-A games of this year that is able to meet the hype (not completely of course). Hopefully Bethesda does not meddle with Arkane but after Arkane's previous success, I doubt they would actively harm Dishonored 2.

What I've seen of the trailers points to the same flaws as its predecessor. Most of the energy seems to have (once again) gone in favor of the fast-paced, action-oriented gamer instead of the one that actually wants to use stealth. Not something I want to see in a game which claims Thief as its inspiration!
The art style still seems bland, the characters still look like they came out of a shit cartoon, and the story seems like the same old bullshit we had in the first game. One can at least hope they rose above all the "kill=bad, spare=good" moral mechanics that plagued it.
But who knows, maybe they're just trying to make the promotional products as appealing as possible to the lowest common denominator, and the final game actually turns out to be good.
