Fallout 1&2 brightness question.

I installed Fallout 1 and 2 onto my new computer (running Windows Vista), with one of them widescreen LCD monitors. So the game looks kind of brighter than it should, daytime is not so bad, but nighttime, well, let's just say its barely night. More of like sunsetting at 0000 hour. :|

I know it's not supposed to be that bright out during nighttime, I originally played the Fallouts on an older computer (Windows 98) with a CRT monitor and the game was dark at night. Tried all different settings on my new monitor and nothing helps.

What I want to know is is there a way to "fix" the brightness so it's less bright (yes, the brightness is at the lowest (normal) in the Preferences menu). Any game file that I could edit to change the brightness or gamma or whatever its called?

Do you have night vision, or night person? iirc, night vision makes night time 25% less dark for each level you take. Not too sure about night person though. Only thing I can think of other than getting the latest drivers for your video card and making the screen darker is checking out mods that make use of Direct X(if they can change the resolution, they may be able to turn down the brightness. I haven't used any mods in months and can't remember exactly what they were able to do, but worth a look)

Nope, its not perks or traits. I guess I have to fiddle with my video card, but I'm kind of hesitant. Don't really want to change my whole computer's video if it is something that can be changed just for Fallout1/2.

My video card is pretty old(geforce fx 5500) and it has options to set setting profiles for different games, might try looking into that if possible.
