Video Game News had the following to say:
In an exclusive interview with the UK Official Xbox Magazine, Bethesda have revealed more details about Fallout 3, the legendary post-apocalyptic RPG franchise they took over in 2004.

And whilst the title has only been confirmed for the PC thus far, judging by the comments below, an official word on its Xbox 360 release could be imminent…

Speaking to Todd Howard (Executive producer of Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout) with regard to Bethesda’s plans for 2007 and beyond, he told us; "We started work (on Fallout 3) in late 2004 with a few people. We only had about 10 people on it until Oblivion wrapped, but most of our staff is on it now." Is it wishful thinking that Fallout 3 will eventually be released on Microsoft’s next-gen machine? With the game itself utilising the same Gamebryo engine as Oblivion, perhaps not. And promised to be as huge and open-ended as their multi-award winning 2006 effort, demand for Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360 would be huge.

"We have pretty long preproduction phases on our stuff," continues Howard "doing concepts, design, building prototypes, and such. We should be ready soon to show it off, but we’ll see."

For more details and the full interview with Bethesda, check out issue 18 of the Official Xbox 360 Magazine, on sale from the 15th of February.
First interview on Fallout 3 goes to an XBox 360 magazine? That should clear up some questions on who the intended target audience is. Who ever thought we'd hear the sentence "demand for Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360 would be huge" uttered in anything other than anger? Same target audience as Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, people.

I'm not sure what they mean with Bethesda "taking over" the Fallout franchise. They don't owe the license, though it's true they now have a prime oppertunity to destroy all that is good in it (or keep it true, whichever they prefer).

*Tries to forget everything about the game as he starts yet another replay of Fallout...*
Translation:
I think I will forget about FO3 right about now...

Man, I really hope they don't fuck this up.

Personally, I think a RPG / FPS Fallout could work, just as long as it was true to the Fallout Universe. However, I don't Bethesda are the people to do this.

I honestly hope Bethesda prove me wrong, I will happily eat my words if they can do this well :)

Here's to hoping. There's a few things that pleased me, including the identity of their lead developer and the look 'n feel of the E3 poster. But everytime they raise hope even an inch they just seem to raise it to get a clearer shot at hope's nutsack, by, say, giving an exclusive interview to an XBox-magazine.

Personally, I'd be well-pleased if we got a decent post-apocalyptic cRPG out of this. Whether Bethesda wants to make a decent PA cRPG is an open question, and not the first problem, the first problem is that in my mind they are incapable of making even a decent cRPG. Fun dungeon crawlers? Good adventure games? Sure. A cRPG? No, I don't see them doing it, they don't have the people and they have shown no inclination of hiring even a single person with even an inkling of what a cRPG is, sticking with the leadership of coffeeboy Todd and pr-man Pete, whose powers combine into making a wildly succesful game, but also a wildly bad and easily forgettable one.

We'll see.

For the millionth-and-umpteenth time, a First-Person Fallout game would *not be a Fallout game.*
Because, guess what, the isometric viewpoint is essential to many different things Fallout, including the turn-based combat, which is essential to SPECIAL, which is also essential to Fallout's general design.

Last week i played Troikas Vampire Bloodlines that was some amazing rpg experience. They would have done a really good next generation Fallout title, but Bethesda will not.... yay Fallout 3 will be a sequel to F:BoS!

The pain... So... so... so dark... Mom, tell the guys outside, that i have the depression and don't want to go out and play in the sand box...

There are like 50000000 FPS and combat games on the market.. why would they use the franchise fallout to make another clone of clones taht has no special appeal for kids and iscompletely disliked by its fans?

Especially after POS... They are in it for the money, so they dont want to make a game taht isnt sold...

Well call me a fool, but hope is the last thing to die :/

Wait, does this mean that Fallout 3 has the same right to be Fallout 3 as Fallout tactics or POS?

hmm... beth need to have a subtitle cause that makes it awesome, right?

I think they'll call it Fallout 3: Dark lair of the Evil deathclaw within

This is why I hate being a fan.

I'd seen this all before, with the great computer fantasy RPG series "Ultima"...and its creator was at the helm of every one, including the abysmal unplayable-even-with-latest-official-patches last installment!

So no big surprise...all things must die...life...never changes....

Some time ago I was talking about Fobos 1 and Fobos2: Vagrant Lands with someone from Bethesda and the person in question almost puked when talking about those games. I really wish he's not the only one that understands how those games and action/adventure consoley gameplay can hurt the Fallout franchise. Well we'll see.

So they allow a sneak peak from PCGamer, give a broader picture to the X-Box mag and will spill the beans in March, in an unnamed event righ? I got the story straight so far, right?

While I won't miss a chance to start referring to Fallout 3 as Fallout 3: Vagrant Lands or Fallout BoS 2 (maybe Fallout 3: Vagrant Thongs?), the concept that a game like that neither fits the franchise and the understanding that such a game in the franchise will inevitably flop is so easy to see that I think Chuck and Herve are the only two people in the world that missed it (ok, and a dozen developers and 19,000 customers).

So even Pete'll understand that. How much more he'll understand? Dunno.

Ask Pete, see if he starts burning random people at the stake. Heh.

Okej thats it, we are officially fucked.

Time to forget about Fallout 3 then..

I think i just got higher hopes for Fallout 4 than "Fallout 3" :?

Afterfall > Fallout 3
