Paste Magazine, 100.<blockquote>Fallout 3 is, hands-down, the richest, deepest, most captivating game world I’ve ever explored. You’ll have that same feeling of awe you experienced after reading J.R.R. Tolkien’s appendices at the end of Lord of the Rings. Middle Earth really did exist, if only in the head of a mad artist dreamer from Oxford, England. The world of Fallout 3 must never exist. Consider Bethesda Game Studios the Ghost of Christmas Future.</blockquote>Forbes Digital Download.<blockquote>There is almost too much good to be said about Fallout 3. It presents the best sandbox (open-ended, do whatever you want to do) video gaming experience ever.

The voice acting is also superb. More than anything else, it pulls us back into that world. It’s clean, crisp, and straight-faced enough that the series' wry sense of humor shines through.</blockquote>Scripps News, 5/5.<blockquote>It would be easy to just say that "Fallout 3" is "Oblivion" set in post-apocalyptic Washington. If you didn't play "Oblivion" (Bethesda's award-winning RPG set in a mythical realm of swords and castles), you missed out on something beautiful. But "Fallout 3" takes this even further and delivers probably the largest explorable game world ever, and it never gets boring.

Publisher: EA Games</blockquote>The Bitbag, S.<blockquote>The Fallout series goes back 11yrs. It has always been a highly acclaimed PC title and would continually get better with each new game.

It’s funnier how a year after Bioshock we are seeing something as amazing as Fallout 3. Just when you thought the next generation hit a threshold, Bethesda breaks through it showing us that they have staying power in this business. They initiated us into the next generation with Oblivion and now they have us drooling on our second course. Fallout 3 is a truly engrossing title that will have you stuck in a chair for hours on end. If you are a fan of western RPG’s and want something different, add Fallout 3 to your list.</blockquote>Only the Games, 5/5.<blockquote>While in function it’s nothing like those that came before it, Fallout 3 captures the only thing that was fundamental to those beloved isometric masterpieces of the past: a world reborn from apocalyptic ash.

With minds in the right place, detached from primordial mechanics, developer Bethesda isn’t interested in the irrational expectation that the Fallout series will, always and forever, be stuck at an archaic plateau. Through a tersely envisioned world, where people praise undetonated bombs as relics of their creation, where slavers and raiders seek nothing but pain and bloodshed, Fallout 3 touches on every dark and dank place spawned by a desolate existence, but never does it lose touch with hope. Through retaining the essence of Fallout, and presenting it for a new era, the setting resonates as deeply as ever.

The futility as a straight shooter is slightly offset by VATS (Vault Tec Assisted Targeting), which has you queue up individual body parts of enemies for a more efficient, targeted, and cinematic result. But a mix of the two never quite comes to fruition without the right balance or feel.</blockquote>Strategy Informer, 9.0.<blockquote>Fallout 3 is a stand-out RPG that offers a heaping amount of replay value and entertainment. The NPCs that fill the world are natural jerks and it makes the experience all the more entertaining as they are humorous and nihilistic. The voice-acting helps take the game to new lengths and the VATS defines how players will think about Fallout 3 long after they complete the title. Fallout 3 is an outrageous game that’s a joyful ride until the closing minutes of the game.</blockquote>Mirror/Techno Techno Techno, 5/5.<blockquote>Combat is just as satisfying as exploring too.</blockquote>

I don't know about that "S" rating on Bitbag. They have games rated "A" and "C" too, but I couldn't find a description of the rating system.

Repeat a lie 1000 times and will be true...

Or is really really so good?? or is the lack RPG games on the market that make reviewers go frenzy and review with 10/10 and S grades???

Any explanation?

Anyone already play it and can give a little description of what saw on the game??

Sorry my english, me talk Español tu talk ingles

"Amazing, breathtaking" -Some guy who looked at the box art.

"So dark, deep and meaningful. To see these people living in such terrible conditions. I'm going to go buy some more weed with all that kickback money" - The guy from Paste Magazine

"Just when you thought the next generation hit a threshold, Bethesda breaks through it showing us that they have staying power in this business." -Loves the corporate knob.

This is just absolutely disparaging. Worse yet it seems all those paid reviews each have their own little pokes at all the things the Fallout fans made a fuss over. "GREAT VOICE ACTAN!" "SUPER FUNNY DARK HUMOR!" "GREAT PLOT!" "TOTALLY NON-LINEAR!"

Makes me sick.

I've played enough Resident Evil to know that "S" is a rank above "A."

I like the bit about "primordial mechanics."

Just played the game for a couple of hours. Every bad thing that was said about it is true. It may have been rated Mature, but there is nothing mature about it. The quality of the writing is horrendous. The quality of the game engine is appalling. I felt like it was some sick joke, not an actual AAA title. If I weren't so disgusted, I'd make a video of what I saw: NPCs completely ignoring continuous BB gun face shots, unequivocally retarded G.O.A.T questions, absolutely horrible character animations, ridiculously bad collision detection, bland environments, bad textures, etc, etc, etc, etc. Waste of time. Thank god I didn't have to pay to try it...

Even if they really do think it's great and they're being perfectly honest, it shows how low standards have fallen. Either way it's pathetic.

everything here is true, and yet somehow I have fun with that game : ).

Somehow I have INCREDIBLE amounts of fun with it :). The reason why? None of those issues are enough to even slightly mar the overall experience, because they are MINOR issues. Almost every game has at least one of the above mentioned faults.

if a game has bland environments or bad textures I would think it would have to do with the inherent design of the game more than anything.

Oh man this is just too funny.

Why? The voice acting is great! Sure, it's not the best out there, but considering how many lines of dialogue there are, it's a pretty hefty achievement that Bethesda's pulled off.

i think the voice acting would have been greatly helped by expression in faces. some of it isnt that bad in of itself but a lot of it feels 'phoned in'

We must make sure that our grandchildren and their grandchildren never walk around stiffly. They must never offer kind words to people who just shot them in the face. They must never explode pointlessly when hit with a teddy bear.

I don't know where to start with this one.

Just like the only thing fundamental to Doom was Mars. And the only thing fundamental to Super Mario Bros. was the Mushroom kingdom.

Try http://www.irontowerstudio.com/forum/index.php?topic=577.0 where screen shots and play-through descriptions are given.

Summary: There are two games here. One is a Fallout game. As a Fallout game, Fallout 3 sucks. Plain and simple.

The other is a post-apocalyptic Bethesda game. Remember that "We’re not going to suddenly do a top-down isometric Baldur’s Gate-style game, because that’s not what we do well." quote? That sums up FO3 well. They did what they do well.
...
So, forgetting about Fallout and talking about the new Bethesda game, unlike Oblivion which was bad, Fallout 3 is flawed, but shows promise. After the modders are done with it (hopefully rewriting dialogues, changing vault 101, VATS and hacking), it could be a pretty good game.

I'm not sure how bad animations, horrible AI and bad writing can count as "minor faults". unless you like pointless button mashing, or your favourite game in the world is Oblivion.

Have you played the game?

Yeah, and I found all those faults annoying as hell as well.

I feel bad for all you "Fallout Fans" that are here talking about how this game HAS to be bad instead of enjoying the heck out of what is turning out to be a great Fallout experience.

Four hours in, and I've already had more laughs and heart-pounding battles out of this game than most in recent memory. If all the reviews are all bought ( which is ridiculous), I was bought too.
