Fallout 3 won't be Morrowind-with-guns

Some of our worries regarding Bethesda doing a future Fallout game might have been satisfied both in the Bethesda forum and the Gone Gold forum. Gavin Carter (Associate Producer at Bethesda) posted this:
Just a few things in general -

1. We won't be talking about any specifics any time soon. We're in early pre-production, which means we're doing more talking than anything else. I'm sorry, I can't even hazard a guess as to when we might begin talking about it.

2. Right now we're not opening a new forum. You should feel free to talk about the game and your ideas in here and in Community Discussion. We usually lock threads around 200-250 posts, but we're going to let this one go a while longer. Please don't throw a fit when it does get locked, as very long threads can slow down the database.

3. We're not making Morrowind with guns People who think we will never progress beyond Morrowind are going to be in for one hell of a wake-up call.
I hope I can say puh... Still doesn't confirm TB/Isometric view tho...
In the meantime, the people of Bethesda are more than welcome to use our Fallout 3 forum to gather and discuss ideas.

Yes, we should stop worrying so much. These guys seem to know what they're doing. I'm feeling more and more confident by the minute.

I'm not.

Anyone can make a remark like that. Bioware could buy Fallout and say "but y'know, it won't be KotOR in a post-apoc setting". That doesn't mean or even vaguely imply that they'll be true to the Fallout spirit, it only means...it won't be Fallout: a Star Wars RPG

Doesn't mean shit. I won't rest easy until they say something about SPECIAL/TB/isometric. No vague hinting either

Also true. But it is looking better than I had hoped. TB/SPECIAL/isometric is really the next, and perhaps decisive, step now.

Looking better than you hoped how?

What exactly has bethesda said to relieve anyone's concerns, apart from "Interplay won't be actively involved"?

Any dev who claims "I'm a real fan" as a good base to trust him to do a sequel can shove it.

It's just hope, really. We've already been fucked over a number of times. They better not add another treason to the list.

"a number of times" is right.

Everyone is resting too comfortably with this one, too.

I think bethesda has its smarts about them and made sure to have a BK-clause, but what if they don't? Then if Interplay goes belly-up, Fallout 3 would still dive down with them.

That's actually what I'm most curious about right now

It had better not remind me of Morrowind at all. Actually, I don't think that's possible, because I got bored of playing Morrowind after about 5 minutes, and I never even bothered to start it up again.

Im staying in the violently sceptical corner on my angry chair over this. Anyone want to join me?

*rrrr*

Slightly heartening, but we still need more information. A totally new engine far away from Morrowind would be good, but very expensive. I hope they are as cooperative as they claim to be. We will just have to wait and see.

I'm going to focus on the positive. This is good news--- our game isn't dead. Until we hear anything further for good or ill, we should rejoice. At this point we are still working hard on Mutants Rising and it is far from a dead project. So, if anything, hopefully we have at least two games to look forward to.

I have to agree, I'm pretty pessimistic at this point.

I would hope that Bethesda has reviewed the financial situation of IP, and wrote a clause in regarding the licensing scenario, they'd be idiots if they didn't.

Personally, I hope they simply buy someone else's game engine. The FarCry for instance could easily handle a Fallout sized town. Throw in RPG elements and an overmap and you have a game. Marrowind had a lot of great concepts and ideas, but it felt like the technology is what fell flat, not the ideas. I would rather they just snag someone else's engine and spend their time on art and content. Let someone else worry about creating an engine from scratch with good graphs and frame rate before it becomes outdated.

Honestly, the thought of Fallout done on the FarCry engine (or any othe such engine) makes me giddy. Everything is in place, now just make the needed ajustments and additions, write a kick ass story, make some kick ass art, and reap the rewards.

Moves on.

Someone should tell them that the bullshit they shovel should at least match up if they desire some credibility from anyone of rational thought.

Actually, Petey Boy has already, and proves that not all of the people at Bethesda are on the same page:

IGNPC: Can we expect something similar to the work done on Morrowind, in terms of that style of game experience?

Pete Hines: Again, it's early to say, but it wouldn't be a leap of faith to say that we plan to use technologies in development otherwise. You could make some fairly safe leaps of faith that it would be similar in style. We're not going to go away from what it is that we do best. We're not going to suddenly do a top-down isometric Baldur's Gate-style game, because that's not what we do well.

Too bad most browsers don't support the blink tags anymore. Otherwise, that would be blinking, in GIANT NEON, FUCKING LIGHTS BRIGHT ENOUGHT FOR ANY MORON TO READ AND UNDERSTAND.

Guys, I fully understand ur aggressive behaviour, I´m pissed off too but let´s not take that attitude to Bethesda forums, otherwise we shall just be ignored...
