Well the speculations about the Fallout PC license is all over the net, according to a danish site called Newz.dk the old Black Isle guys are trying to rally up and obtain the license for themselves. The idea is to get the license and probably the engine, then finish the game themselves. Evidently the reporter from this site have talked to someone from the Bis team and got this info from him.

Word. Why don't you translate, Odin?

Like I said before, though, don't get your hopes up. As much as I'd love to see the BIS guys rally up the flag and fix this mess...it's just not probable. Unless there's some major thing happening behind the scenes that we don't know about.

One, where would the BIS dudes get the money?

Two, who says IPlay *wants* to sell Fallout? It could be the only thing saving them from folding.

'Course, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I know everyone else is, too.

I want to apologize in advance for this horrible online translation- here it is:

It is no for a long time the paper that Blackout Isle closed, and dermed is the future by they games they had walk to anything unsure. For the most part Bust 3 have been here await, and so ærgelsen too were gash extensive when the innovation about the shutting come forth. Look a couple of portraits from F3 here.

That notices after forth to that there possibly is hope ahead. Known a chin by a from herself udviklingsholdet at the back Bust 3, getting i told that they attempting that acquire the licence to played and intentional improving. The informations estimate to that være highly credible.

I think #2 is the biggest point to be made, what would motivate them to do so? It's been proven that the fans desires sure as hell don't fit into their long-term thinking.

It's purely money driven, and if it's possible they are going to milk the turnip for all it's worth, if nothing else, I can see them holding onto the license to prevent competition.

I'd also like to see some of the BIS guys verify this.

Rumors are running so rampant right now, that I don't trust it unless it comes from someone "in the know".

You guys have to remember that we're talking about the PC license here. Not the console license...

Translation:<blockquote>It isn't long ago since the Black Isle office closed and the future of the games they were working on is also somewhat unsure. Especially Fallout 3 have been highly expected, which is why the aggrevation was extra huge when the news of this closing was released. Click here to view a couple of the images from Fallout 3.

It does look like there might be some hope down the road, by talking to a person from the dev team behind Fallout 3, I learned that they are trying to obtain the license to the game and continue the development. The information is considered to be very credible.

The people posting on the danish site seem to think that this has to do with Silver Style's talks with JE and Puuk... But they don't have more info than we do...

For all we know, this 'news' could be stuff we already know- like there's a chance the SSE is going to try to purchase the license.

Actually, I think the BIS crew might not have too many problems.

They have a game half or more completed that Iplay doesn't want. With lots of fan support they could get capital needed for a start up.

This could be righteously cool.

The fact that Interplay keeps denying the existence of Fallout 3 would be a big help in a copyright/intellectual property decision in court. If Interplay didn't order the start up of development, all Fallout 3 material would be property of Black Isle. With that, if Black Isle doesn't have a line in their contract stating that all of their projects belong to Interplay... :o ...things would look very promising.

But we all know this couldn't happen. Still nice to dream, though.

True, not talking about the console license, but I just don't have any faith in IP to release ANYTHING without a big chunk of money being exchanged, and I don't see where ex-BIS could get a mass influx of that kind of money to get the licensing/code+get a development shop set up+be able to meet their personal comittments (bills, clothes, food).

Perhaps it's the overly pessimistic, beaten down, distrustful side of me...

Black Isle doesn't have to have a line in their contract stating that all of their projects belong to Interplay - Black Isle is/was only a division of Interplay, not a separate company.
