Fallout 2 mod Fallout Nevada no longer works on Windows 10

First time out of the vault
Hi all. I'm trying to play the fan made prequel to fallout 1. Called Fallout Nevada. Got Fallout 2 installed and ran it already. Fallout Nevada will launch on windows 10, and it will play through the intro scenes just fine. But when it's time for it to show the main menu, it's just blank. Music is playing, but you can't see anything. Just a black screen. If you hit the Esc key, the game just crashes immediately. I got a friend to try on his windows 10 machine. Same problem. Microsoft has probably put out an update that won't let the mod work.

Anyone else have this problem? It uses DX9 so I tried running it in compatibility mode with Windows XP sp2, but then the game won't even launch.

It looks like Fallout 2 works fine on Linux. The problem is, the Fallout Nevada mod is a .exe file. Which of course, is for windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately those settings didn't work. I am using windows 10 so I told it to run Fallout Nevada in compatibility mode for Windows 8. And I ran it as administrator. It won't even launch the game with those settings, I just get an error message from windows telling me that I need to change the compatibility settings. Then I get the troubleshooter window asking me if the program worked properly.

I do have a question about the installation though. Are you saying that the mod folder needs to be in the Fallout 2 root directory?
Or should I ditch the folder itself and dump all the contents of the folder into ProgramfilesX86>Steam>SteamApps>Common>Fallout 2?

That way the mod's files would all be mixed in with the Fallout 2 original files. I'm a little unclear on that part.

User Samuel_Evander had the same problem. He wrote on nma discord following:

1. uninstalled everything I had previously installed in my fallout 2 main (because I didn't have any important saves) hi-resolution patch, restoration patch, the game -- just to be sure.

2. installed in a clean folder and removed Nevada Mod (Extended) from file installation path. the game asks to create one and say no. it will then ask if you want to install Nevada to same directory as Fallout 2 (so no subfolder). say yes.

that's what I did and it then worked.

Yeah I ended up just dumping ALL the files from Nevada into the fallout 2 root directory. You don't put a folder containing the Nevada files into the Fallout 2 root directory. The individual files have to be integrated in with Fo2's files in the main folder. Then it will work. Just overwrite anything and tell it yes to everything. There will be an error message or two, you just ignore them. It works.
