Fallout NV - New California : crashing

Hello chaps,

I eagerly downloaded the NV:NC mod but find I'm unable to play for any great amount of time as pretty much the 1st instance of me hitting any load screen results in either a system lock-up or an outright crash to desktop.

I'm on Win 10 with mondo mondo hardware all drivers are up to date
I've got NVSE (re-downloaded and re-installed)
I've patched with the 4gb patch from nexus
I've turned off excessive mods

Can anyone spare their brain to help me out here?

I saw similar comments in the comment section of the mod download, and the creators themselves said something about "working on it"
Apparently the Atrium area is like super ambitious, and the game engine doesn't like it, so it shuts down...

I know if you check the Discord they have a troubleshooting and help sections. I also know they've announced that if you don't use the Steam version you don't need the 4GB patch.
