Fallout 2 mod Fallout Sonora 1.14 and Sonora Dayglow 1.14 Vanilla Translation

'What news...' as that is a legitimate variation on 'Any news...'
I hadn't heard it before, thanks

PCDon, line 223 "Sorry, But" the B needs to be lowercase because it's after a comma
NCApcLab line 216, has an 'old world' in lowercase, every other instance it's standarized as 'Old World'. Line 225 has a typo, "eveeything". (I'm unsure if these lines are actually used though)
JCRanger line 245 has a typo: 'siging' instead of 'signing'

Some minor stuff

FCTom line 226 has a typo: 'rathr'
PCEnmClt line 234 has a typo: 'Keep out of out way'
TCCody line 224 has a small upper case error. 'and give me work that Isn't too hard.'
PCRedPst line 249: 'Don Diego has an interest in those letter', just need to change it to 'letters' since it's plural

Also, San Felipe is completely cut, right? Aside from the map icon the 'AC' files are the only mentions I've seen of it, though regarding ACCtzCav: "I'm from a fishing village on the coast. It's called San Felipe." There are also mentions of the floaters found on the oil rig. Perhaps it was replaced by El Faro?

It's cut, but the content is there, and I have a feeling it may be added in/finished at some point. If I had the mapper working it would be the first place I would add back in as it is so close to being finished, and has some beautiful art assets (I modded it back in in my own game) For now I won't erase on references to it.

I updated the game (I got rid of the outdated .dat files, and dragged the single .dat file into the game's directory) and did another playthrough, using PINCE to skip the XP farming.

I am adding these in now. I will just go over things I did not change. If not mentioned, I just put your suggestions straight in.

The mining machine error is very odd. I fixed that recently, though I don't think it is in the 1.0 version. There was a bug and it may be connected to that error message. What version of Fallout are you using? Fallout2.exe, Fallout 2 CE, Foxx's edtion etc.? This may impact some error messages.

Carvanner is correct rather than caravaneer. Fallout 1 uses caravanner and caravaner, but correct spelling is caravanner I believe. Caravaner is a variant, and maybe caravaneer too, but I went with caravanner.

The '-empty-' entry in Video Archives is reserved for 'Dayglow', and is overwritten by pipboy.msg in the dayglow files, which makes me wonder whether there is something wrong with your install.

Status messages like 'She looks: Unhurt' do not have periods, from OG Fallout, so no change. There may be need for it to lack a period as it might be used by scripts elsewhere.

The extra period at the end of 'Oops, you were hit instead of Mantis!.' is a bug from Fallout 1 also I believe. It needs to be fixed through code, or the ! mark must be removed.

The [Reaction] line is prepended via script, and should have the brackets. It acts the same for replies that use Reaction, Reputation, Level and Karma

The capitalisation of 'Door' within finding trap messages can't be changed.

Min is abbreviated without a period throughout Fallout 1, so I have standardised it to that for strength entries.

Changed the Jackal Key to the Jackal Storeroom Key. It is unique enough to warrant 'Jackal' in the descriptor

For drunk 'stuttering' I don't add spaces after ellipsis, to differentiate when used for thoughtful pauses, and hanging sentences.

Wastelands will be kept, as it is referred to as wastelands frequently in Fallout 1.

I left most references to Earth and God as they were, as Fallout 1 is very wishy-washy on capitalization for them.

The Pip-boy 2000 is usually referred to as pipboy in Fallout 1, so that stays.

For the ladder that is labelled as 'Stairs'... where is this? I need to check in game, because there are 3 identical labels for stairs, and changing the wrong one could make actual stairs become labelled as ladders. I'll need to change then test in game.

An old, 'decaying' pier sounds better than a 'rotten' pier, so I'll go with that.

'Here's their tags' is a more natural/colloquial (though grammatically incorrect) way of saying 'Here are your tags' - this approach is used frequently in the game.

Okay, that's it. The error message will require some investigating I think, though I may have fixed it already.

Thank you so much for the incredibly detailed report! Fantastic stuff! All your changes are in except for those noted above. They are part of an upcoming 1.01 release, which I can release anytime now.

If a NPC has crippled limb(s), the message is displayed correctly, with a final period, as shown in this screenshot. Can't this be fixed in the other messages?

The cursor over the word, was because I was meaning to ask you (but I forgot, after I was done checking if the formatting of my post was correct. A lot of ISPOILER tags to check out!) if there was a way of circumventing the issue of getting a bad outcome, in these dialog options, like using the '0' (on your keyboard) to end the dialog after a mercenary in Vault 15 initiated a conversation with you (you may get flagged as an enemy during this conversation), in Fallout II.

There's a typo in this dialog line, but it is not "[Reaction]", like you said: "were". "[Reaction] Come on, old man, were all in this together."

I apologize for any confusion brought by this screenshot.

The extra period at the end of 'Oops, you were hit instead of Mantis!.' is a bug from Fallout 1 also I believe. It needs to be fixed through code, or the ! mark must be removed.
Sounds like a reasonable compromise to me, removing the exclamation mark.

The capitalisation of 'Door' within finding trap messages can't be changed.
It's generated in-script?

Min is abbreviated without a period throughout Fallout 1, so I have standardised it to that for strength entries.

I respect your decision, even if I don't agree with it. I'm not a fan of "Min", "ST", and such, from the vanilla in-game descriptions.

For drunk 'stuttering' I don't add spaces after ellipsis, to differentiate when used for thoughtful pauses, and hanging sentences.

Ah, I see. I'll keep this in mind, from now onwards.

An old, 'decaying' pier sounds better than a 'rotten' pier, so I'll go with that.

Good that you agreed that 'rotted' pier just had to go. About the change, sounds good to me, Cambragol.

For the ladder that is labelled as 'Stairs'... where is this? I need to check in game, because there are 3 identical labels for stairs, and changing the wrong one could make actual stairs become labelled as ladders. I'll need to change then test in game.

It's in that room with the dam's lifting mechanism. You can access this area by exploring the vicinity of one of the staircases (the staircase doesn't lead you to it directly, it's just a reference point) in the Rangers' facility. I hope it rings a bell.

I'm happy to help! Thanks for making (and hosting) this english translation for Sonora (and its expansion), Cambragol!

I will look into this next.

If a NPC has crippled limb(s), the message is displayed correctly, with a final period, as shown in this screenshot. Can't this be fixed in the other messages?
This is the very reason why it can't be fixed. These status variables (Wounded, Dead, etc.) are used as variable in a number of different status messages. The location of the variable varies (beginning, middle, end of message), so if I added periods, then the message in this screenshot with be 'Wounded. but has crippled limbs.'

If I didn't capitalize it, then you would get 'wounded but has crippled limbs'.

This is the same reason why I can't fix the capitalized 'Door'. It is used as a variable at the beginning of some messages, so must be capitalized.

This would take some rewriting of the Fallout CE code to fix, accompanied by rewriting of the dialog files. Bummer, but something we must live with unless a fix is coded into Fallout CE.
I apologize for any confusion brought by this screenshot.
No worries, got that 'were' now.
I respect your decision, even if I don't agree with it. I'm not a fan of "Min", "ST", and such, from the vanilla in-game descriptions.
Yeah, for the most part I just blindly defer to Fallout 1. If it is good enough for the holy grail, then...

It's in that room with the dam's lifting mechanism.
I found it, but, I am a little leery to change it. This may be the case of a bug, where the wrong label is applied to the object. If I change the dialogue line here, then other cases of actual stairs throughout the game may become labelled as 'ladders'. It is a tough one. I am going to mark it and see if the same labeling issue shows up elsewhere. Then I would know it is a translation issue. The russian term for stairs/ladder seems to be much more vague than English counterparts.

Okay, looking at the 'error' message around the drilling machine next.

I couldn't find any issues with the new 'fixed' version of the Drilling Machine quest.

I have updated the Translation to version 1.01 which includes all the spelling, grammar, dialogue issues raised in this thread. There are also some quest/script fixes for the script version. A complete list of updates can be found here: changelog

The new version of the translation can be found in the usual places, at the moddb and the Fallout Sonora website

Edit: Also, of note, I forgot to include the AI.txt file in the 1.0 release, which means that translated combat taunts for Spanish speaking NPCs was not working. Hopefully I haven't forgotten to include anything this time around, as the update procedure is getting fuzzy...

Hi, I'm really excited to finally play Sonora! Before I start though, I wonder if there is a way to change the resolution. Maybe I'm missing something obvious... Thanks.

It depends on what you are using to run the mod: Fallout 2 CE, or Fallout2.exe with sfall. Generally they both use f2_res.ini and ddraw.ini files to set various graphics features. Fallout 2 CE has only limited use of the features, while for sfall you will have to wade through the various iterations and flavors of that, but generally there are many more options for graphics.

PCPrtznB line 273 has an uppercase after a comma: "But first you get me 350 caps, Then I'll teach you what I know."
ISCompB: generally you use [Next] in dialogue files, but this file doesn´t have the brackets.
PCCasCas line 215: Nothing serious, just a double question mark: "You do realize we live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, right??"
TCCult line 207: Mentions 'air guns', I'm fairly sure this refers to the Tinsmiths' neumatic weapons like the Fist and the Spear, so 'neumatic weapons' may be better

Also... I looked at the Tinsmith ghoul file, the guy from Two-Sun. While looking at the russian file I have, it mentions he's from Hermosillo rather than Tijuana as it's mentioned in your english file. I'm mentioning this because I remembered it was brought up earlier in the thread.
I wonder if he was just meant as a nod to the guy in New Vegas then? I did think he was meant to be the same guy as he's named Raul and he's a ghoul, and in that game he does mention he went to Two-Sun where he worked as a handyman. It also wouldn't make sense though, as the guy from that game is from Mexico City rather than Tijuana.
It just made me think, it's probably not too important.

[Next] is actually wrong, and it should be [More].... except in computers where I did use 'Next', but without brackets, as part of the 'OS'. However, I found a couple of strays, so fixed those up.

The computers in Sonora are more standardized, so I must resist the urge to 'destandardize' back to a more casual 'Fallout 1/2' level.

I added the other fixes in.

As for Raul, I checked his file in Russian, and it says he used to live in Tijuana. I didn't find any mention of Hermosillo. However, as you say, the Raul from New Vegas came from Mexico City, not Tijuana. However, they both have a history in Two-Sun. So it is hard to ascertain what the authors intended. Maybe intentionally vague?

Yet... considering the Dayglow expansion, it is strange that he would be saying he is from Tijuana rather than Mexico City. Mexico City would make more sense.

@QuantumApprentice I did see your stream on Youtube, and the door translation is wrong (which I confirmed by checking the script and double checking the Russian in a couple of places). It will read "You haven't even left a mark on the door." in the future.

Maybe so, and perhaps my file just translated it wrong somehow, my friend handed it over
It's also possible it's just a coincidence

RCRngRand has a small detail, may not be too important. Everyone refers to Helford as a commander, but in line 302 refers to him as a Captain, line 280 and 304 refers to him as a commander too
TCMedic refers to 'Endurance' as Stamina in line 262, INFO.msg has the same instance on line 152

TCCrvBos, line 315: "No one will take your things! Remove any extra cargo, or we'll leave without you." perhaps change 'No one will take your things' to 'We won't carry your stuff for you!' or something similar? Given it's related to carrying too much
There's also line 316: "Extra weights's my problem."

Regarding NCHimadr: This dialogue uses the word 'himador', but I'm fairly sure that even in english it's written as Jimador https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimador
It also describes the Syrup item as Juice, the syrup is made using juice, but it's sold as the syrup already
Line 1269 also has "ma'ma" instead of ma'am
