Fallout Tactics Artwork for Fallout Mods

.Pixote.

Antediluvian as Feck
Modder
I wish to pass to the Fallout community the Fallout Tactics object artworks that I have put together. Through the magic of the Fallout Tactics editor, and some clever Photoshop actions this project was completed. Each image was rendered without the original anti-aliasing (which looks wonderful in Fallout Tactics but leaves a horrible blue outline in the original Fallouts), because of this some of the finer shadows have been reduced, but overall it doesn’t affect the quality of the images.

All up there are 350 images - each batch has been categorized in their own folders (i.e.: BOS - Generic tiles – Industrial – etc). Each image is crammed with multiple scenery objects in the order found in the Tactics editor. All images are at actual size and have been converted into the Fallout color palette and saved as 8 bit BMP’s. I do recommend to modders de-saturate some of the more colorful pieces, so they blend in more naturally into the Fallout world, but that’s your decision. The best way to edit the images is to open them in Photoshop or its equivalent and crop the pieces you need, and then convert them in the Frame Animator. Be aware – you will need to arrange the frame offset numbers yourself, and might require that you slice some of the larger artworks into smaller pieces before converting them to FRM’s. If none of that makes any sense, then read up on the topics at NMA dealing with Fallout art.

Enjoy, Pixote.

PS: No I won’t be doing the walls and tiles, because of the obvious fact that the angles between the two games differ greatly - (it is possible to convert the walls and tiles into the correct angle, but I will leave that up to you to work it out). The images below are small examples of the various artworks, and their categories. The link is the actual downloadable file. For those greedy bastards grab the complete file. Added to the Tactics collection are the weapons and ammo. All up 162 individual items. The ground items can be rotated on 4 angles (NE, SE, SW,NW) for those occasions when you want to place a weapon on the ground with that special look.

The look of these items have been dirtied up somewhat; I thought the originals were far too bright and clean for Fallout. It will be interesting to see some of these in future Fallout mods. Included are the text descriptions from Tactics, with its damage, range, AP numbers, etc, feel free to change the numbers to suit your needs.

nice job .Pixote.!

The critters from FO:T were already exported in FO2 format for some time now right?

Did these have some use? what was the story again, can't quite remember anymore...

This is so... abnormal. Has he lost his mind? Fucking mad man?!

Thanks, o' course.

Who's gonna crank out the FRMs? Oh wait, I bet I know it. Holy Cuntinuum from Wroclaw! :o

This is a demonstration of how to re-angle the artwork from Fallout Tactics to the original Fallouts. It is important to change the preference settings in Photoshop (Image Interpolation) to - Nearest Neighbor (preserve hard edges). Then select the artwork and perform a Free Transform (Ctrl+T), and match the correct Fallout angle. Finally it might be necessary to clean up some of the rougher edges.

A higher quality version Re-angled Tactics Artwork .

Do you realize you've just killed Scenery stuff and such... thread? Bad Evil Pixie! BAD! Damn you, you, inspiration from other games invaders! :P

--------------------------EDIT

j/k, of course

I kind of feel bad about this sort of thing, because I know people might abuse it…and after a while there might be a lot of shitty borrowed art turning up, but hopefully the art will be adjusted so it fits the game (de-saturated and darkened).

TBH: if done properly (adding painting like feature here and there) it may look really good after porting to past-gen engine, since this art has been made by professional artist, and from this point of view there's nothing to complain about (and often you can't say the same about fan made content), which is a big plus, IMO. Sure, you may bitch about some design, etc. But not on the quality.

Personally, I see no point of doing any scenery stuff in the future

I really doubt I'll return to scenery stuff any time soon... scenery is so inhuman... not individual... is dead... Besides, as I wrote above - there's so much stuff you can take inspiration from :D

I wonder what will happen with this... I think we need some ripper & flipper guy... :P

I don't think, that much of the building stuff can be used or is from real use. The first building looks pretty good, but will it still with just one elevation? Everything else would become so much fiddleing around with tiles again...

And the junk shacks of course.

/Edit: Not to talk about that mining stuff... ladder, etc.

/Edit: And now I see that we got it already, except the elevator. Totally forgot about it... assimilated now.

/Edit: And this, oh god, I love this.

So... looks like, there is still some stuff left to do. :P

IIRC, Pixie was interested in this (that talk about sewers at MR's forums):

but this mesh is the most fucked (and hard to work with) after import. I even tried to clean up the mess, but I failed pretty fast... broken smoothing, booleans (union), tons of weird triangles - one gigantic mess :yuck:

But indeed, that sewers are very large and impressive (take a look at this small-ish ladder at the bottom "corner").

Whoops! Wrong thread! Yay! :P

Hehe, yes.... I love it. :>

Sadly, in my actual mod, I wouldn't have any use for it. But still... it looks super epic.
