FEAR 2 demo: impressions?

So it's out.

My impression? Another one dumbed down for the console 'tards.

Leaning: gone
AI: retarded, not much coordination anymore
Recoil: gone, now you just point and shoot
Pace: FEAR on extasy
Viewport on the PC: no full screen, if you have a normal monitor you're stuck with idiotic black lines at the top and bottom.

The effects seem to have become less impressive as well, although the graphics engine has improved in general.

Yup, I actually missed that, as for the recoil, i can't exactly remember but the orginal FEAR didn't have THAT much recoil.

But i liked it to be honest. It felt really good, maybe not as good as the original game, but it was still good, at least it has a promising atmosphere.
 
Not sure what to think of it yet. I agree with some of the points fedaykin made in OP, but I wouldn't be so negative. My biggest issue are the periodic slowdowns that I can't find the cause of. And don't say autosave because it's not autosave.

anyhow, i've kinda given up on FEAR after the first crappy expansion, which was then followed by another with a dude that had the same 'powers'/skills of the first dude, but without even trying to explain it.

meh...
 
I didnt really like it too much , though i didnt reallu like the original game either. all those flickering lights and effects that keep coming on the screen constantly makes me literally feel sick. they just feel bit overused during the demo.

Might be because im taking quite the medication for my toothache atm and im all dizzy allready...

Those crappy expansions weren't made by Monolith and aren't even considered as part of the story. Why give up on the game just because of those expansions?
 
The original had enough recoil to prevent the player from being able to just keep the crosshairs on the enemy while holding down the fire button, thus presenting more of a challenge.

Simple point and shoot is just plain pathetic.
 
I tried it this morning. I'm considering writing it off entirely because I can't slide-kick the rats into paste any more and have to shoot them instead.
I'm glad they gave you the ability to knock over stuff for cover like the replicants did in the first game, though. It isn't the optimal solution for most fights, but it's nifty.
Other than that, I've got nothing.
 
I'll be picking it up for the 360 when it comes out. Rather enjoyed the demo and rather ticked off about the whole removal of the ability to lean as with almost every single fps on the 360.
 
The whole thing seemed rather meh. It was nice to have good weapons variety, the healkth bar is back, and the mech sequence was cool, but it wasn't anything too remarkable.
 
So no regeneration shit, but the recoil is almost gone? Fuck this and fuck all games without proper weapon recoil (yeah CoD 2 to 5, I'm talking to you).
 
very very few games have proper recoil in them.

so far, i havent seen but 1 or 2 of them, and none of them are counter-strike or anything done by valve.
 
This demo is certainly a disappointment. First F.E.A.R. wasn't exactly a great game, but it still was a lot of fun. No leaning reminds of what happened with Far Cry 2. It still does seem more fun than FC2 though. Slow-mo effects in F.E.A.R. 2 are actually worse than in first game - how is that even possible ?
Unless they change a lot for full release, this seems like just another crappy console shooter.

Wasn't "Extraction Point" made by Monolith? I know "Perseus Mandate" wasn't, but I thought EP was done by the same people who did original.

They were both made by TimeGate Studios and published by Sierra Entertainment. They aren't even considered as part of the story, [spoiler:6247eb17e4]F.E.A.R 2 starts right where F.E.A.R ends.[/spoiler:6247eb17e4]
 
Serge 13, thanks for the clarification on this.

I've come across the "Clarity Mod" for this demo which removes the shitty grain filter. It looks much better now..

Played some more.. It started to look like this game could be fun, but certain elements, like annoying HUD and "press x button to do this" poping up everywhere you can do "this" (do they think we gamers have become so stupid we need a reminder how to open a door everytime we come across it?) piss me off. I hope these things can be modded out. No leaning too, I hate when they remove elements like that. Also this demo was ridiculously easy on "Hard". Oh, and the glow effect on enemies when in slow-mo pisses me off too.
 
Thanks for the warning. Guess I'll just stay clear of that one then (not like I wasn't planning to anyway).
 
I actually played the demo and FEAR one back to back to compare and I'm not seeing the recoil issue you're talking about.

All in all it's not that bad and the mech shooting part tickled my nerd bone a little bit.

So far, I like it alright but it's just gonna be a time killer till Resident Evil 5.
