Reports are in that people in the FOnline: 2238 third open beta test, which has just begun, have been killed by lizards. Next, the lizards will be taking over the settlements and filing bug reports along the lines of "too easy" and "needs more insects".
Finally, the OBT3 has begun.

It arouse a massive interest for the game, resulting with numerous players downloading the client last night and trying to log in. This caused noticeable lags and ruined the game for some players who had less luck than the others - dying in random encounters was just one of the issues.

We are currently working on resolving them. The hardware seems to be quite overloaded, causing the abnormal lag peaks. This is due to the fact that some of our features are very complex, yet they have never been tested massively. This is the perfect opportunity to test them together, so that we may investigate any possible problems that could choke our hardware right now.
FOnline: The Life After is also supposed to have gone online at this time.

I played some but didn't get a grasp on it -- what I am supposed to do? There's practically no info given about the game, no NPCs talk to, no quests, nothing to loot, not able to kill anything in random encounters unless it's against a single rat. Experience is really hard to come by. Luckily I hit the nail with a unarmed-sneak-outdoorsman character, because anything gear-related stuff would only be letdown with that asinine death (and maybe steal) system.

The woman barkeeper in Den (Becky?) gave mission to fix craps table. Ok, I fixed it, but it didn't do anything. I didn't get any exp or karma. She had the same speech lines and could give the quest again.
I also slept with Miria in Modoc, and now she only talks to me with floats now. This may sound stupid, it's a remnant from my experience with other MMORPGS, but does it affect anything now that I slept with her and can't talk to her? Yeah, it's Fallouty way of design, but not something what you see in generic MMORPGS where every implemented thing has to have meaning. They don't have much or at all "random" chat without some benefits to player.

That The Life After is some Russian version? Many Russians there but much less lag and disconnects, it's actually playable even all NPCs everywhere are dead. I had luck and encountered two gangs killing each other and then just looted all the assault rifles and other weapons and stuff. Little bit later get random encounter with super mutants and they kill me during the loading screen - all stuff lost. Ehhh..... there isn't a way to keep stuff after death? Must be fun for crafters...
It's just retarded way of design. Maybe it gives more dangerous feeling of the world, but it screws progression. It's waste of time if I happen to gather materials for some armor for hours and get killed after getting half the materials. And even if I can manage to create the armor it only takes unlucky crit or lag and the armor is taken from my corpse. Why even bother?
Something like keeping your inventory items or equipped items and some of your money even after death would be a compromise of some sort.

If you want to store your stuff, you can buy a room in some places. Klamath's Golden Gecko, for example. I think its too expensive, though totally worth it.

renting a room costs 500 bucks in hub...

Caravans are not really done yet. Needed to wait because fixing bugs before start was more important.

To the stash: Get 10 brahmin hides and build a tend in the desert.

To the quests: We already said many times that 2238 has not much quests yet. We mostly worked on engine features. The Life After has much quests.

Just copy your music file from fallout 2 data and paste it into the FOline folder.

Too bad that I didn't know that, just lost good items because of encountering Molerats. I think that their movement speed should be decreased, because when lag comes, player has no chance to escape.

Anyway I'm very surprised how the game looks now the real time combat is enjoyable but still needs some serious polish, same with net code it seems - game lags like hell on 2238 server.

There is something I still don't get.

Basically when you make an online RPG there's two orientation.

"Satisfying" one : Materials are hard to get but they are as hard to lose (or are impossible to lose; for instance : WoW, and many MMORPG)

Then there are the "Roleplay" one : You can lose easily all your materials in order to make something real and evoluting. But ! To avoid people focusing on their stuff and materials and make some RP you make stuff and materials as easy (or so) to acquire.

TLA choose the "Roleplay" way even if it's not so easy.

But in 2238 you try hours so hard to got stuff you loose in 10s. That's not a clever gameplay.

exactly .

Ok, some quick feedback thingies:

1) I agree that random encounters are too hard. Specially molerats, decreasing their action points would kinda solve the problem with them though.
2) Losing loot upon dying should be after some percentage check or something (unless, of course, someone is there looting your body.) For example, chances of losing the radio should be 25%, they may increase as you level up.
3) Starting "naked" doesn't really make sense, I mean its not like your character just materialized into the wasteland a la terminator, they must have some history prior to you starting the game (and seeing vault suits everywhere ain't right). I think we should be able to choose AT THE VERY LEAST, between starting with some (shitty) armor or a knife. [Of course this is just a beta test so you might already have plans for those things.]
4) This one should be real easy to do, FOConfig.exe should offer widescreen resolutions. (I hate widescreen monitor but thats all you can get nowadays)

I've been to the Cathedral...

And it's completely deserted! What is this bullshit? Why isn't anyone there?

to make matters worse every time you get revived you owe 800 caps/ currency and it goes up the more you die. (I think i found where it says it in the pipboy) This game is definately not noob friendly and half the time i simply drop dead dude to lag... Over the game is cool its just dieing is really hard hitting to any player...

Devs should really do something about camping by exit grid. It's just ridiculous, when two guys stands and try to kill everyone who enters.
