FOnline needs YOU! (to sound like Ron Perlman)

The even crazier chaps developing FOnline: The Life After are on the lookout for a voice actor, more specifically "a native English speaking male with a mature, deep, strong voice". Basically you're looking at doing Ron Perlman's gig with not so much of his usual pay. If you're a natural born American with a flair for "dramatic narration" and a desire to make this game all that it can be, then head on over.

Also this had better not turn into the next Mutants Rising/FMF!

Small correction: It is FOnline: The Life After who needs voice actors. Not 2238. :) (Yeh, it is a bit much fiddling around at the moment with the names...)

We are not in a dev stage to need voice actors yet. :)

Could Perlman do it for free legally?

What about James Earl Jones? :P haha I bet he could make it work with a little twist to his voice

But... but... the blog is located at http://fonline2238.blogspot.com/ and there's a huge FOnline: 2238 logo on top of the page.

Hehe, indeed.

It is just that those even crazier chaps from "The Life After" project need it more badly than we do. They wanna make an intro before 15-Aug and if they find someone really good, we might use him for FOnline: 2238 as well (later).

This is why I wrote "FOnline developers need voice actor" :D

It has the advantage of being playable even now - more content will be added over time, but there is no clear notion of 'completness' like in single player games. At least I always viewed it like this - a game that will NEVER be finished by definition:)

Well I'm no Ron Perlman, but I have been trying to get a voice acting gig for a while now, as long as its an NPC, I don't think my voice is a good announcer type voice.

We've sent Ron a letter about narrating Mutants Rising, something like a year ago :P

He obviously didn't send anything back, and even if he did in not so long future, I wouldn't know that, because I've changed my address.

Is there any history of good famous voice actors doing work like this for free? Ron seems like a cool enough guy that he would do it, maybe he just didn't find out about it or replied to your old address

that would be soooooo cool if he did come around to do it!
crap now i can't think of anyone else with a deep voice :|
perlman... jones... think, think, think...

If ron perlman did anything for free, he'd be out of a job in a second.

Ok, maybe a month. In any case, I can see voice actor industry enterprises thingies asking him to lower his prices because, after all, he does stuff for free.

And of course, charity work doesn't apply here like it does for musicians and porn stars.

Well, some german voice actors from the Gothic games have done some work for free, if I remember correctly. Still, they have their jobs. :>

It's not that they have a contract signed where it is absolutly not allowed to do free work for other. Also just because of a few "free sentences" I don't think we will not get any new job or people will say "I want you, but cut your money 50%!".

It's just me, maybe it's different and I am horribly wrong.. but I wouldn't see everything that harsh.

Ron actually did one role in a movie for free, if I'm not mistaken. I've read it one, I think it was on IMDB.

Dammit, I would've loved to hear someone with an extreme old-style British accent do the narration.

War, war never changes my dear listeners. Even after a tremendous destruction of our home planet, caused by our own, human stupidity, we still would fight like a god awful animals. Like hungry dogs scavenging for more food to chew on, we would still look for things to destroy.
Perhaps another marvellous thought of how to blast ourself, would be a consideration for the next time we've got the chance? It is for god's sake our human, bloody nature, isn't it? Everything we create, must be destroyed instantly by us!
It's like we love to show off our dicks around for some stupid reason, like monkeys in the fucking ZOO! It is because the bloody war never changes, and we are all fucking cunts! Aren't we?!

Don't know about free, but he did Guillermo del Toro's Cronos at a discount.

Oh my God...

Um well let me start.

I have no experience doing speaking for entertainment like voice-acting or singing, but one problem I would see about this work would be the nervousness of knowing many will hear your voice and I spent multiple years in a speech and debate club at high school to the point where public speaking isn't hard and even somewhat empowers me. Overall I'm probably a bit more experienced than the average reader here, but I would also guess among all of us there are a few who have some real experience.

Also the voice. I have been told by many people over the years I have an unnaturally deep voice some even saying it's the deepest they've heard. Unfortunately those same people have told me it's very monotone. I don't know if how well it would fit "Ron Perlman's" voice signature.

If it helps at all Mutants Rising is going to be using voice actors soon and have already had a sign-up and I've been told I could easily fill a position after giving them some voice samples. Keep in mind I haven't done anything for them yet so I have no practice, but at least it shows I have a good voice.

I know the FO group will monitor this thread. Tell me what you think.
