I tried editing the 'item.txt' but it didn't work, so can someone tell me how to do it?

When you edit the items txt make sure that you've spelt everything correctly, and remember the display name is case sensitive.
i.e.
name_MP5 = {H&K MP5}
desc_MP5 = {}
won't work if you've put mp5 in the weapon's display name.
Also check that you've saved your edited file in the right place,
core/locale/game/items.txt
