Could someone explain how to edit the values of the Critters/Items .PRO files in step-by-step, plain English to a complete beginner. I have IN:9 but Science :0. Thank you for your time and patience.

I'll point you to another thread that had a similar question a while ago, I answered it as best I could. Hope it helps. The question was how to add new items, but you use the same method for editing existing ones.
