Gamespy on Fallout fans

Gamespy covers Fallout fans in their #8 Debriefing, together with Fallout Tactics' production manager/Gamespy associate editor Alan "Delsyn" Rausch:
[Rausch] When it comes to Fallout fans, ignorance, stupidity and arrogance is bad combination, because this is a community that has all of those. Since I've already opened the door there, they're loathsome human beings, who I hope really get a horrible disease and die.
(...)
They have some of the finest RPGs ever made. I still break out Fallout once in a while and play it. But if it's a choice between, say, having my eyes poked out with red-hot needles and spending time in the Fallout forums, I'm seriously going with the needles.
(...)
[someone else, talking about discussion on the Fallout 3 forum] You can have Fallout on the east coast because there wasn't a war on the east coast, and you can't have powered armor, and Ron Perlman would be dead by then so how can he do a voice-over.
(...)
[Rausch] Ron Perlman was never a friggin' character in the game. He did the voice over for God's sake. Second of all...
(...)
Y'know, these are people who would love it to be 1998 forever and they want all the ex-Troika guys to come back to it. I mean, the quintessential example of what these people are is when Bethesda got the license and nobody knew anything beyond the fact that hey, Bethesda got the license. A normal person would go "hey, look, an obscure license that really only had critical praise and didn't do all that well in terms of sales has been rescued from the dead by people who love it." And what was their reaction? "Oh, it's going to suck when Bethesda has it. You know what? You know nothing, shut up.
Link: GameSpy Debriefing #8, at At 90:30.

Obviously, criticizing a game (based on little info, true) is an irrational amount of hate, yet wishing an entire community to die from a horrible disease isn't.

Gamespy's always been like this. Still, this is a new low. Defining an entire community as ignorant, stupid and arrogant, wishing them all to die from a horrible disease and then outright lying about the Fallout 3 forum (I've never seen anyone say the war didn't happen on the east coast, and almost everyone *wanted* Ron Perlman in it) is a new low for them.

Still, they'll do anything to make us look bad. Funny thing is they're making themselves look bad instead.

True but some people that are not from fallout community and stuff can really believe that guy from gamespy.

I don't think any reasonable human being will take a guy that's wishing death on an entire community (just because that community has an opinion) very seriously. Sure, SomethingAwful and like forums that already hate us are probably already laughing about it and circle-jerking in agreement, but they're no worries.

Look, Gamespy and certain sites (like, again, SA), are obsessed with us, and intent on hating us. I've tried talking it over with a GameSpy editor but to no avail. It's an obsession, and trying to convince any of them that we don't deserve to die is like trying to convince one of us that Fallout 3 shouldn't stick to Fallout's core design. Not happening. So forget about 'em.

Why SA hate's us, as a community? I thought they're cool. :/

PS: Sorry for these questions that may sound silly for some of you but im not kinda up to date.

together with Fallout Tactics' production manager Alan (Rausch?):

Mobygames has Allen Rausch down as "Marketing Manager" for Tactics, so needless to say, the fact that the fandom/consumer base didn't like the game it was his job to promote must mean we're evil and stupid. Because otherwise we'd have shelled out lots and lots of money for crap and he would have been successful and that's the definition of not evil and stupid people.

I don't really know. There are a few over there that've been banned here, I think, and they got really angry at us when we quoted a developer post in a newspost. They DOS'd us, banned NMA users from their forum, and so on.

I don't know. To be honest, I don't really care a lot. Sure, I'd like it if they weren't so hateful, I think it's a pity because from the looks of it (I don't visit it often, only when I spot a reference), it'd be a good place for more neutral people to discuss Fallout, but currently you'll get vilified for being an "NMA troll" if you're too critical about Fallout. Not the best place to be for the more critical or traditional Fallout fan, right now. They even sent trolls our way, recently.

It's a shame, but I can't change their minds for them.

Meh.

I just can't stop laughing at the hypocrisy right here. Aren't we supposed to be the ignorant, stupid haters? :(

They're stealing our crown, guys.

Hang on, I suddenly remembered...Alan Rausch is the Gamespy editor I mailed to discuss his comments about Fallout 3 before!

He sounded a lot more reasonable than wishing us all to die horrible deaths in his reply back then, though he already sounded pretty angry about our existence back then.

I'd love to have a good talk with him, too bad he stopped answering my mails.

Now this is just an idle thought of mine... but would we be allowed to sue gamespyfor libel?

Wasn't there a lady who did that because of a chat room conversation? Well if an established site does it to us... do we have a case? It might be interesting just to let them know. Might shut them up.

Could we? Perhaps. Can we? I'm not sure if we are available to invest the time. It's not a bad idea, an sich, because it'd probably work, knowing the American legal system, but who amongst us would invest the time and money?

Let's not throw stones. For the world is hollow, and I have touched the vitriform ceiling.

Wait, didn't Gamespy publish a "best game cinematics evar" article in which about five of the twenty five games listed were HALO and its sequels/spinoffs?

Pfft.

Hype whores.

I just noticed it - he wasn't really specific about this. Didn't he just offended all Fallout fans, not only the hardcore cut-out?

Oh, this is rich :> The day hasn't begun yet, and it's already made!

Well this I find funny and at the same time, very low.
It sounds like the psychotic ramblings of a crack addicted 4th grader.
What no "doo doo head booger faces, i dun like yoo DaC, or NMA, you are boogerfaces"

Rausch is known moron and a media whore, so there is no surprise there.

*shrugs* The reason I originally mailed him was to find out why he wanted a Fallout 3 that was good, but not like the Fallout fans wanted it. He replied, though I wasn't satisfied with his answer and replied to him. No reply from there.

Still, what can you expect from someone who is planning to gloat about giving Fallout 3 a 10/10 review and watch us gnash our teeth as everyone loves it? Bit of a nutter, obviously.
