Have you moved on from Fallout?

Akratus

Bleep bloop.
A simple question really. But it might be hard to answer, or perhaps have a wide range of answers depending on the person.

I'm not asking if you're no longer playing the games, I personally haven't and plan on finishing 2, and replaying 1 sometime in the future.

I personally have moved on from the need to get another Fallout. I won't get pissed if Fallout 4 turns out worse than 3. I'll laugh it off or be dumbfounded, but don't see myself getting mad over any mistakes bethesda would make in my eyes.

If it was up to me, Fallout 3 would disappear and no more fallout games would be made. Instead I would want devs to focus on new rpg's in new intellectual properties.

But if New Vegas 2 were announced, of course i'd be hyped. I guess I haven't moved on. ;)

I have not moved on, and the experience of discovering Fallout has turned into a sortof magical dragon for me. My age was right, my situation was right, and my limited experience w computer games at the time was right. The impact created by Fallout, and then successfully repeated with Fallout 2, is something I have waited a long time for. FO3 ruined a lot of that, and I'm absolutely sure this is part of the great disapointment for many a waiting fan. Learning about projects like Mutants Rising get me excited again, so... I am definitely not "over" Fallout :D

I still relate to it as a product that needs to fit a certain mold in order to qualify. I am trusting that mold to trigger the right sort of emotions in me, despite the unlikelyness that I'll ever return to being 17 again or whatever :D
That's the thing with nostalging longing - that one must acknowledge and accept that a large part of nostalgia is not the product you long for - but the actual time, place, environment and age - and obviously, nobody will re-experience their past in that way.
It is similar to "getting over" an ex, a person, it is not always the person per se you miss - you miss the good memories (that are irretrievably lost in chronology either way) or even the fantasies of things you hoped for. The latter particularily true for disapointed Fallout fans :D

This. With Bethesda's track record in mind, Fallout 4 will not be worth my time, so I do hope Obsidian gets another shot at making a Fallout game after Bethesda releases whatever it is they will release. I guess it really depends on who is making the title and what will be in it. I'd love to see a new Fallout with proper writing and some new, interesting factions and locations.

Well, New Vegas had excellent sales. More than Fallout 3 in fact. So that gives me hope, even publishers should see it as a good idea to release at least some kind of spin off. Hopefully they won't pick a different developer then though.

I'm still sticking with modded BIS Fallouts, spending last year with Resurrection betatesting and killap's RP playing.

Bethesda did a great job though, they've cured my obsession with any future Fallout for good, by tossing their cheap and ugly console ports at me. Never finished Failout 3, greatly disappointed by poor technical quality and ugliness of FNV regardless of its excellent writing and decent world design, I'm definitely not going to pay for this shit anymore. Obsidian or not, The Mutants Rising is awaited more eagerly than any Fallout 4 by me.

I've had a really strange experience with Fallout. Years and years ago I was blown away by Fallout one, and really dissapointed with Fallout 2. But then the dissapointment with Fallout 3 made me discover the RP and the megamod. I loved the RP (megamod not so much), but I'm sort of waiting for a definitive version to try to give my contribution. It's funny how I ended up playing so much Fallout 2 despite how much I see it as a deeply flawed game on so many levels, and how much I still appreciate it compared to any other RPG ever made (Planescape Torment is more of an interactive novel, it's not a very good game).

The only way I'd move away from it, I think, would be if by some miracle someone makes a really good wide-open sandbox Shadowrun: returns game or mod. It looks like the only setting with enough potential. But untill then I guess I'll keep replaying Fallout 2 and trying to come up with solutions or ideas for the games many flaws - and I'm sure I'll spend at least a year of my life with modding it for an hour every day as a project if putting food on the table doesn't interfear with it. The combination of adoring appreciation and exasperated disdain I have for it keeps bringing me back without error :D

I don't play the Fallouts actively and haven't done so for a while, but it's not like I play something else occupying the same slot.

I won't say that i play Fallout all the time. I won't even say that i play video games all the time.

But Fallout 2 is a game that i replay more that any else, and it keeps being interesting.

For instance, i recently downloaded all the original voices for the dialog and the videos. The next time i will play it, it will be the first time i will hear Fo2 characters speaking in an other langage than french. (already got original voices for other Fo games except Fo2 & FoT) As i made much progress in english i even hesitate to put texts in english as well, to get some additionnal lore and puns that weren't translated well. (in French, the FEV, deathclaws, and the introduction sentence are translated in different ways in every games, for example)

Also, since the last time i played it (2012) there were many improvements in the Restoration Project or things that i weren't aware at the time (new apearance for followers, new followers etc...). So even without the langage switch, it remains fresh.

I also have very minor skills in modding, so every new knowledge is amazing for me.

So even the main game remains fresh for me.

Plus there are other installment that i didn't finished yet (FOBOS/FONV) or other that i didn't replayed enough (Fo1-FoT) so they're still partially new.

Then they are many mod out there that keeps everything new.

Those Fonline servers took me big chunk of my free time and nearly caused me to fail some exams in the last few years. Now that Ashes of Phoenix has just started, i try to prevent myself from playing it too much, but it's is very amazing.

Then we will have Van Buren and Mutant Rising to keep ourselves entertained, not mentioning Wasteland 1&2.

So the Fallout world is far from being dead for me.

It would be great in the future if we have a flash/php/html fan made MMO in the Fallout Universe, with even more rpg choices, and bigger world, without caring about puting any graphics or animations in it. I know there are many website of that kind. We only need a Fallout one.

Also, i would certainly try a Fo3 kind MMO, if it is free to play.

And will be interested of what happen of the franchise.
I'll hope that Bethesda will stick to the east coast and leave Obsidian deal with the west coast. So even if they mess with the name of the franchise, we could still consider them as two separate universes.
If Bethesda mess with the core region, then it will be the end of the Fallout world as we know it...

Ha! I still frequent these forums...

I think there are finally several new games coming out that might be comparable to Fallout. The new Torment, Wasteland 2 etc. I'll most definitely boot up good ole Fallout when Mutants Rising is finished :look:

I haven't played them in some time, but like Per says, not like there is something else comparable to play.
I do play Fallout/2/NV once in a year or so. In fact, I'm playing to replay FO3 this year, first time since it got released.

I've been inspired by all those "Fixing FO3 threads". I forgot how bad the game was, and I forgot the little fine details I liked in it.

Otherwise, I don't care about the franchise that much anymore, really. I didn't care much even when FNV was announced, Obsidian or not - I liked the game, a lot, though, but that sure won't get me excited for another Bethesda Fallout. If Obsidian gets attached to some other sequel in the future, it will be good, I guess, but like I've said, I don't care all that much anymore...

And if we're speaking of filling that post-apocalyptic game place in my heart, there are several mods I never played, there is Wasteland to replay, and there is WL2 just around the corner. So yeah, no rush.

I want more Fallout, but not Fallout 4.

I'm just scared to see what they will do to the franchise next, and then see that everyone adores it, and New Vegas will be remembered as the sub-standard game in the eyes of the majority.

Question is - why do you care about majority's opinion?

Haven't played it for 3-4 years (the originals i mean), not because i don't want to, but because i still remember them clearly as yesterday. So i don't have much contact with fallout these days, but as far as i'm concerned they are in my top 5 games of all time and that will never change looking at the trend of the past 10 years.

Do i wish for another Fallout - no. Though i don't give a shit any more, if beth continues to make that turd - let them... It's not like there are people in line who would do it justice (that would be hard even if it still was the golden age of rpg's).

Because people liking shit propogates more shit.

And there is nothing you can do about it, so why bother?

Maybe?

I don't have any plan to Fallout series for now
but still, Fo2 is kind of model for good quest RPG.

and replaying is kind of meaningless since I know almost everything of playing Fo1,2 and NV.
future Fallout? well... I won't buy anything from beth, especially game with beth's horribly designed quest marker and auto journal.
but I'm willing to play anything which is good non-linear quest RPGs like WL2 and Divinity original sin.

For me I think moving on from Fallout would be like moving on from a child and focusing on a newer one. It's been one of my favorite franchises (If not my favorite franchise) sense my first adventures in the Capital Wasteland. (Yes, I played Fallout 3 first...) Ever sense then it's been an important part of gaming for me. Now I just patiently wait for Fallout 4. As a fan of EVERY Fallout game (Except for BoS) I do have some faith that they can make a good game out of this, so long as they can learn from the good parts of NV and avoid the flaws of Fallout 3.

I think pretty much everyone here will agree with this.

Personally, I love FO1/2, but given the chance I'd rather play beth FO4 and rant how they desecrated something, then go through the motions of replaying it again, when I can probably write a complete walkthrough from memory... which is why I am i am mostly excited about new content mods...
