How deaf would everyone be if this happened in real life?

Still Mildly Glowing
So I was watching some X-men movie and you had a scene in it where one of the heroes is so quick that he just walks around at super fast speed catching bullets and just fucking around. And I wonder how much of a sonic boom that would cause. Also how ridiculously strong muscles and reflexes would you have to have to move at such a speed? Is this guy god?

I think the bigger problem, for me at least, is the mass. See a bullet doesn't really have a lot of weight, just a few grams really. And now for someone with a weight of let us say 80kg to move so fast that a BULLET is slow to him ... but the effect is so cool, that it doesn't bother me really :D.

I'm more concerned with the effect of the quicksilver character himself, according to the wikia he runs at 10 mach, wouldn't that generate a lot of heat? and wouldn't air go crazy by his incredible speed, wouldn't he basically cause a enormous explosion with his enormous speed?

Actually I think he might even cause some apocalyptic super storm, fuck man, this motherfucker is lovecraftian

Summons @Hassknecht

Well, mass x speed should give you the force or something like that. Some youtube video says that Quicksilver is moving in the latest X-Men movie at 1/10 of the speed of light. I guess, if he hit something that would be equal to a nuclear explosion, considering his mass. And yeah, it would also generate a hell lot of heat I guess, because of earths atmosphere.

Wouldn't picking up a bullet with your fingers and moving it sideways to another place absorb most of its kinetic energy in the process? Come to think of it, if he's moving that fast, wouldn't he add more energy to the bullets by touching them?

I'm more curious about his anti-G mechanism. Acceleration when he starts running/slows down would have generated g-force pulling his eyeballs out of his skull probably. :lalala:

Also, if he thinks and reacts so fast, you'd think he could also study and learn at the same pace, making the same progress in a day that would take others years. So basically he could become a god.

Something's telling me that ladies engaged in sexual intercourse with this gentleman would be gravely disappointed though.
:monocle:

and imagine how strong his muscles would have to be to run this bloody fast, according to the x-men wikia he runs at mach 10. Imagine how much he would be able to deadlift. What do the other x-men have on this guy? Laser eyes? Please. healing factor? He could strip wolverines flesh away to the bone with a cheese grater before wolverine knows what was going on.

This guy just pretty much is god

Well, i guess laser eyes could destroy him, because if cyclops could somehow make him not notice that he is trying to laser him up, the instance the laser beam escapes his eyes, quicksilver would have no chance of avoiding that, because you can't move faster than light.

but Quicksilver would already have ripped his balls off before he could grab his sunglasses

Found this in reddit:

It's not just red, it's ruby-quartz.
It's also not a laser, it's a beam of kinetic force.

So basically cyclops, like all other x-men are useless against this guy.

Super-Speed was always a bit of an overpowered characteristic, because if you think about it, realistically only very few could stand against it. But of course as other salready said, it can only work in a world where 'real' physics can be ignored. There is no way that someone could run around at mach 10 without any serious effects either to himself, or to others. One of the first that comes to my mind, is the force of the acceleration and change in speed. Those would rip anyone appart. But at least he's not the Flash, you know Quicksilver has a limit - at least in most cases. Where as the Flash, can literaly be as fast like 'light', in some cases he even was faster and thus traveling back in time ... but this meant a great stress to him.

I'll ignore the other physical effects since most of them have been pointed out above, but one devastating effect going at that speed, particularly at ground level, is that air is compressed in front of him. This compression is extreme enough to ionize the gas in front of him and generating a plasma. This is basically the same concept as re-entry heating, when space debris enters the atmosphere at relatively high velocities. Generally, a space capsule enters the atmosphere from low orbit at around mach 20 (~7km/s, correct me if I'm wrong) but encounters re-entry heating at greater altitudes where the atmosphere is MUCH thinner.

The end result of this dude running at that speed is a gooified pool of X-men, security guards and kitchen utensils.

Isn't he like the most OP x-man ever ? He could literally stay in the fast motion for ever and like unlimited time. Like as soon as they know theres a threat surely he can just go over there and like tie three shoe laces together or something I mean like wtf

I wanted to argue your point, but then i realized that we would be arguing about fiction.
i mean thats the basic trope of God, i see its just a bit hyperbole if you easily apply term 'god' over someone who still has bounded by time

You assume that he would not be able to educated himself to a point where he would go beyond our current knowledge of physics and biology. I assumed that if he can think and react so fast, he would be able to gather such amount of knowledge that he could potentially free himself from current restrains of physics and biology.
