One of the jokes I appreciate is if you finish the base game before doing the Settlers, Responders, and Brotherhood of Steel expansions. Conversations tend to go like this.
"I'm a Responder too!"
"Huh? I've never heard of you and I know all of the survivors."

"I passed the Brotherhood of Steel tests at Fort Defiance."
"Well, that doesn't actually make you a Brother of Steel but good for you."
A nice little dig at the ridiculousness of joining groups that are all dead.
This becomes a running gag in "Duty Calls" when you can make all of your claims of groups you joined when they were dead and they just react like you're insane.
