I, Robot

Executioner

It Wandered In From the Wastes
So, do you think its possible one day that Fox will have a show called 'When Robots Attack'? The way everybody relies on computers these days could lead to some very big problems down the road if some ai were to plot against us.

Time to break out the emp grenades and plasma rifles!

I think this movie looks sweet, I was going to see it tonight but we opted for Fahrenheit 9/11, since this is it's last week here.

I wonder if the robots of the future will consume us after they destroy us...do robots have teeth? On the subject of F 9/11, was it good, or just a dry documentary?

It really depends on your political standpoint, I suppose.

I thought it was excellent.

I just want a robot maid

I just want a robot maid like the Jetsons. :D

Or maybe just one that will go to work for me... That might even be better.

Seriously though, I can't believe how fast development is taking place. Especially seeing what Honda did with Asimo. There must be some kind of theory out there in relations to Moore's theory pertaining to robotics. Instead of development leaps being 6 months, however, I would wager major leaps may take place every 2-3 years starting from this point on. Time will tell but I imagine by the time I have to wear depends and begin babbling about the good ole days, robotics may have advanced enough to actually perform minor household duties. If anything else, the US sex industry will pervert the technology for a much more "interesting" future. I, Robot does Dallas anyone?

Im not quite sure what my standing is at the moment, i dont personally like kerry but i dont think he would blatently throw away the lives of our soldiers in a meaningless war. I have been pissed at bush since he started this bullshit lose-lose war. He might claim it was for the WMD's and to get the terrorist but if you look at the facts, the majority of terrorist attacks in the world originate from latin america, and eastern europe, not the middle east. Im interested in seeing F 9/11 but its no longer in the theaters near me, so im probably have to see it on payperview. I would be happy to hear any of the facts that you got from the movie malk.

Whether or not AI will ever have the chance to rebel against humanity depends on whether or not they have the ability to desire.

Oh well. The movie has got me interested in the book, which is less action more philosophy. I'll see the movie anyways since it looks badass in the commercials.

It kind of looks like Terminator 4 to me.

Phil, there are a number of places to download the movie online; Moore himself supports this system of getting his message out. Just do a Google search.

Am i the only one who sees strong similarity with Animatrix : The second rennaissance part 1

No. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer before watching Hellboy.

I dont know if you've ever heard of it, but the "Real Doll" is like that. The materials used make her/him look and feel like a real person (without body heat). They also have slight mechanics like I think her tongue can move in her mouth or something. I think they are developing more interactive models as well. There goes the ole blow up doll.

I dare to think that if it really will be Intelligence, it will notice how much of a scum peple really are, and elimination will be only option :)

Intelligence doesn't necessarily recognize a system of morals. An AI might actually recognize human behavior patterns as natural survival instincts.

Its something nobody ever touches on, since AI is always supposed to be superior to mankind, and we're blights on the universe. Its part of why Sci-Fi has grown so stagnant.

"We're blights on the universe?" If you really think so, do us a favor and commit suicide. I have no business with people who can't even respect themselves on a innate level. I really hate this conversation right now, can anyone come up with an original idea, all I see is this stupid, derivative "Robots will wipe out mankind, since mankind is a plague."

Really, any intelligent AI we develop will be limited, since the "rise of the robots" idea has existed from the industrial revolution. People will be afraid of intelligent robots, so they will limit them early on. Think of Asimov's Laws of Robotics, that's pretty much an accurate view.

Besides, no one would put a "real" AI in a service robot. Why have a machines that's smarter than you need it to be?

If it's at all possible, there is one field I would like to explore, Sex Robots. Not these primitive real-dolls, but something which seems as real as any human. Some problems with weight (which is a strong consideration considering various sexual positions) and energy sources, but it's not a highly explored field. Doesn't have to be very bright either, just bright enough to seem real. Consider the freedom it would give people, 'real' sex without consequence, no risk of STDs, no need for prostitution; the largest problem would be main-stream acceptance.

Sex robots would work great.

Until one of the units malfunction, the servos powering the vagina slum it shut and some poor schmo gets his pecker torn off.

I guess they don't teach Context in Virginia.

I even bolded it to make it easier on you.

"I,Robot - The Mechanical Fuckfest" wouldn't make much of a plot, although it would do for a good 5 minute jerk. What good is a robot story without a conflict with humans, and what would that conflict be about, if not our perceived deficiencies. Asimov's "I,Robot" could be viewed as a collection of modern day fables; a critique on humanity if you will.
