So yeah TeamX managed to give us interplay tools to create mve files with lacking documentation and inconsistencies all over.. later thay also made avi2mve, and ppl forgot tga2mve..
I actually sat and studied all the files in tga2mve repository, and actually managed to produce a video output out of it, the only thing i did wrong was the colors, as stuff that is sepose to be white ( nuke flames of cathexp) is orange.
does anyone have any experience with prepping images to feed mve? what is the exact color scheme and how to set the alpha channel ( to what color actually)..
if anyone's interested what i discovered so far, i'll let you konw just say so in this thread..
EDIT:
the can of worms has been opend. turns out i can create a palette file for the movie not only from the first tga but from any existing one.. so for cathexp movie i nstead of the first i chose tga numbered 0060 ( where the explosion is visible) and the colors in final movie are fine.
I managed to successfully re-create cathexp.mve using original interplay tools dedicated for the job.
there were inconsistencies both in the readme file regarding the provided commadlines, and the bat files have bunch of loopholes that render them useless.. however i inspected the batch files and looked up the commands, and managed to fix the errors in the readme.
.tga files can be created from any existing movie by virtualdub, and later have to be batch processed in IfranView (color edited to 24bit 8bits per color). .voc sound file for input via "mutil.exe sound" command, can be converted to via ffmpeg as .voc is a poor man's mp3 substitute invented by nullsoft ( the guys that made winamp player back in 1993). i also managed to figure out few things by trial and error..
#1 the only .cfg file that will work is perry30.cfg neither 300.cfg nor 400.cfg works
#2 the maximum possible CDSpeed which stands for video bitrate in bytes is:539405 which is roughly a bit over 0,5MB, this literally sucks as an average i operate is around 14MB, below this the video is utter crap quality in avi2mve for example
in order to use the software one either has to use dosbox ( slow method) or a virtual machine and winXP on it ( faster method )
the cool thing about this software is that despite it's been made for dos, when used on a filesystem that allows for creation of files larger than 4GB it actually allows to stack together mve files which are over 4GB in size, the thing abel's tool couldn't achive up until someone from this forum patched it.
if anyone's interested i can share the updated readme file with fixed command line instructions.. despite the fact that i lack the skills to fix the batch files, i at least was able to uncover the correct command line syntax for all three:
-creation of tga lisfile: file.lst
-ceation of pallete file: temp.map
-and finally the creation of the .mve itself from .tga files
last step is to use the mutil commandline utility to merge the .mve with the .voc soundtrack..
so if anyone's interested how to operate this program mention me in this thread..
