I want a complete game...

Lurksalot
Got Paws on C&C3 Uprising
Snore, snore snore.... 20bucks for 12 units and 13 missions... Your average Dlc is crap.

Got a look at Leasure Suit Larry Box Office Bust
A GTA clone set in the "flavoured by the desecrated corpse of Leasure Suit Larry" universe meets the "Movies" game.
Dodgy vehicle physics and IDIOTIC camera angles make the game unplayable.
Team 17 still have people who can write a decent scenario and create beautiful balooney cartoon graphics.
Their coders and speech writers on the other hand should attend a lot of classes.
Another case of, Fuck you! you could have made a truly good game, instead you served crap...

Got hold of "The Fall Last Days of Gaia" and "Anno 1701 pack"
German game makers know how to make enjoyable games. However the gits hate English speakers and just ignore them...
Very enjoyable and finished games. Just about 5 years after German release date but whatever.

Installed Bully Scholarship Edition
GTA Concept is enjoyable. Unfortunately no one other than Rockstar make decent games of the genre. Nice game but a console port game. Lacks the strenghts of Pc platform...

Jumped on DoW2
Saw that the game has the potential to be an all time star.
Friggin relic junior team just axed half or 3 quarters of content from CoH and added some expansion options.
I am disgusted with another non-finished product.

Will I ever see a fully finished product this year?

Good question.

Games I was looking forwards too have either been postponed or turned out to have problems such as DRM which I rather do not have on my PC.

Starcraft 2 sounds good but I rather dislike how its just the first part of a series of three.

I guess that leaves Deus Ex 3 but I have worries about that game.

I would like to see some games that aren't sequels or based on some franchise.

I'm not sure what you're saying, cronicler. If you're talking about games running and playing decently on PC, I'd suggest Mirror's Edge or Drakensang, those are two of the more technically polished PC titles I've played lately.

If you're looking for good games and interesting gameplay experiences, errr, don't play mainstream AAA games.

Bn: I was just grumbling about the general quality of the games. Most of the games that I can enjoy without having to turn a blind eye (or four) are European titles which have waited for years until someone converted them to English .Some of the titles were never released officially in English. I bought the Polish version of tF:LDoG and then apply an unofficial patch which was banned by the developer to change the game writing into English. Similarly I had to dig around the filesystem and patch the game a bit before I could enjoy the full scope of Witcher's writings.

The American or The Mainstream titles just fall flat lately. Sure they have a lot of potential (and modders can make them truly good games) but I'm just tired and sad about seeing so many concepts being fast forwarded to the consumer.

Hell even FO3 is actually a Holy Grail considering the amount of stuff you can insert to the game. I could create a total overhaul mode involving V13, V15, Shady Sands, Raiders, BoS and Military Base that would make you cry a river and love the game but I refuse to help those lazy gits at Bsoft to rake cash on my work.

I don't know (I am not drunk before you ask) I think I am severely sad that I have to make my own game to enjoy it nowadays. I miss the subtle humor, cheesy but believable (and consistent in itself) stories...

Jagged Alliance's story (1998) is better than the current Mercenary games' stories (Farcry 2, Army of 2 etc)...

Just look at this little campaign draft that I prepared for DoW2 (If you have time. Its a long wall of text). Most of these stuff were thought and written down during a time period of 2 weeks' bus rides and nearly every entry is within the game capabilities but not present in the game. http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=219928

Really? Me too, I just don't wanna

beverageleverage: I'm sorry m8 but I wasn't just shooting my mouth back there.
What you are looking for in such a project is 6 different maps with 4x radius. (X being the amount of space the camp or outpost or settlement takes) 1x radius of city, 1x radius of explorable wasteland and 2x radius of exit grid/scenery wasteland. SS is the only real place and it would be 1 or 3 2 story buildings and some more 1 story bungalows.

The Vault(s) and Bos Bunker are basically 4 or 5 real rooms with the illusion of more depth (kinda like HL2 viewing vistas ) where you can talk to some people.

Raider Camp is a smaller version of the S.S. with a slapdash earth wall, tents and all.

MB is the only real underground facility of such a project. And even that wouldn't be bigger than the FO1 version. Just adding some stealth/science quests to seal the bulkheads so bad guys can't come to rescue from the main parts of the base would both cover up the limited space and story.

All the needed scripts are already in the game in pre packet packages including the MB reactor bomb.

The base of the writing can be directly taken from FO1 script. Writing is not the problem tbh. On a decent day I can translate 45k characters worth of text. Just giving yourself a basic list and letting your mind go is much more simpler than translating

Just adding some sensible quests like obtaining raider armor to sneak into camp etc, would net you a little tidy package.

This whole stuff is worth about 6 moths work for a solo or duo with some outsourcing on things like map modes / skins etc.

Good Ideas are actually dime a dozen, if you are willing to look at what other people do.

Edit: Let me give you a short version of the cut down story too; your journey goes on the usual V13 (Overseer, Rat Cave Tutorial)-SS (Side Quests)-V15 (Ruins and Exploration)-SS (More side quests)-Raiders (Save Tandi, Clean Raiders, learn of those guys with big guns down south)- BoS outpost/Bunker (Get sent to MB to acquire tech), MB (Cleansing), BoS (Give tech, get radiochip), V13 (Live happily ever after)

You just said a lot of nothing, but for the sake of not blowing this out of proportion, I'm sorry for making light of your self proclaimed greatness and unwillingness to prove it.

Beverage; I am saying that getting a decent/good game out of the toolbox that is called FO:3 is possible. And as you might have noticed I just wrote you a more believable scenario than the basic FO3 scenario containing roughly the same number of locations in about 300 seconds....

Beth (and more than a few other game developers of our modern times) just put a very basic module in front of players and say :"But you can craft your own game with it!" followed by "Ah and before you go, here is some not worth the effort for adding voice acting DLC for you, only x dollars and 99 cents."

This is the part driving me mad (Well this and the games which manage to half the game right and other half unplayable)

And lastly another very sad tidbit for your entertainment; You can convert most of the (not too much code invasive) mods from Oblivion to FO3. The 2 codes are that similar. Just look at the Tons of incredible things created for Oblivion. Beth couldn't be bothered with C/ping mods from over there to here. Why do I have to reinvent the better combat system here? Beth was impressed enough to graft the head explosion parts from that mod into the game...

"The Fall Last Days of Gaia"

My reaction to that game was kinda mixed. I liked the atmosphere, and the lack of currency in bartering was very interesting (I liked how many people asked payment in food or water). The graphics were good, but the engine was atrociously heavy and bulky. Cooking stuff was pretty cool, too. What I didn't like is that it was a very linear game (sure, you had some choices to go somewhere else, here and there, but it was mostly linear) and the combat... PFFT!! I laugh at the combat! Squad-based, gun-fighting RTwP? This game could've been better if they had played more Jagged Alliance 2 and more X-Com. Turn-Based is the best for gunfights with squads. Combat is boring. Also, I think there were too many firearms and bullets though the entire game, crossbows, bows and melee weapons should've seen more action in the early game. I also didn't like how they went cutsceney on me for some moments, forcing me to watch my character speak instead of me.

hmmm, i was going to give a try. how long is the game? is it at least funny?

Serge: It does make you smile sometimes but most of the dialouges are a mix of the usual teen words like cock, suck, fuck, whore, more and their combinations....

Also the platforming elements (which make something like %60 of games missions and puzzles) are destroyed by the idiotic camera. Sometimes it decides to be a fixed angle camera but as you lack option to switch to other fixed angles, you cannot see the platforms. Other times its a free camera which likes to spin around your character like a whirlwind....

Not to forget the controls; you cant assign walk forward and drive forward to the same key. (Drive forward is hard coded into action 1 aka jump) I had to change keybindings for buggy races, also for quick time events, and back to default for walking around...

I did enjoy it from time to time but that game is just a 5$ worth console port as it stands now.

Ps: Lenght; worth about 8-10 hours i guess. thou you may have to add %50 due to failing timed quests as your vehicle/toon gets stuck in the gameworld due to iffy physics and dieing from falling down in you don't see where you are supposed to jump sequences.

Slaughter Manslaught: I took up The Fall as a squad based game similar to Tactics and Commandoes. If you judge the game from that side its an adequate tactical squad game with nice atmosphere and a cliche but decent story. somewhat a 5.5 to 6.5 title on the full 10 scale I guess. (If you look at that title as a pure strain Rpg... Ugh don't know, maybe worth a 4 or 5...)

You are right about the firearm/bullet drop rate. The enemies are supposed to use up their ammo but with some decent planning you can kill them all without letting them fire a single shot. Kinda breaks the game when you have about 50 tons of 9mm ammo from a military base raid (aside from nades, rifle ammo, rockets, and etc... :D)

hmmm, i am somehow tempted to give this larry game a try...i would definitly do it if it had a good story.

Don't bother with it unless you can get it dirt cheap or free Sarge. More and more extremely inept fighting missions spawn near the end of the game where you have 3 min to win the fight and you get gangbanged by 3 enemies at once. not worth the frustration.

Wait, what?

This is a Larry game?

The Dutch Ghost: This is a GTA clone, free world game flavored with the desecrated, powdered, dilluted, and desecrated corpse of our beloved looser Larry Laffer.

Serge: Np, I thought it would still be worth to play it for those few moments but they even manage to fall below my admittedly low standarts and high tolerance when it comes to finishing a game no matter how bad it becomes after starting it.

Even worse than Oblivion and Boiling Point: Road to hell combined ? Yack.
I liked the old larrys. They were dirty. They were fun.
Why does the current gaming industry proceed to RAPE then murder and THEN commit necrophilia with the bloated corpse of the beloved frachise....Fallout for example..or Sonic....

Budget Cuts. The moneybags believe going Holywood is the key so we get more "Action", more "Skin", more cliches.

Since 97 there haven't been many games which had a real story writer in it. or a game directed by its story writer.
Most of the titles we see are all about graphic artists or level designers creating cool stuff then linking the cool stuff together on a chain.

Why bother with paying a guy to write a story where you can have the already paid peons double up with that job too...

Thats the reasion why good sp/quest Mods win hands down compared to vanilla games. A writer creating a story using the tools available will beat random products linked by a chain made up in spare time...

Just think about it: There has been more than 50 good rts titles up to this date. Each of them has shown a new gimmick to make a better story/gameplay. And still we dont have a game that has most of those gimmics.

The last bust in that regard was DoW2. I mean come on, they managed to make a more primitive game than the CoH using the same engine...?

Or consider Crysis. Now those guys are my countryman and I am damn proud of them but come on. Their stories are so bad... Cool action scenes with cool characters and a big bunch of emptiness..

The most innovative story in the last 5 years (in AAA titles) was HL2 for me. Rescuing the kidnapped daughter of the (mad) scientist.... (If you don't count Portal or Witcher AAA that is)
