Ideas to innovate the Fallout 1 and 2 travel system.

Vat dipped, grown and still oozing with perfection
Hello everyone,
I was skulking around as usual and I noticed a thread about cars in the wasteland.
Which of course got me to thinking about other ways to implement travel in the original Fallout games that could have impacted game play.

Bicycles:
While I do believe there are a couple derelict bikes resting in shambles in the wasteland I always found it curious that they never turned into an item to buff the players speed while traveling across the wastes. Let alone the utility value of one in such a scenario that lacks readily available sources of fuel and power.

The good old fashioned animal:
I always thought it funny that no one actually rode a Brahmin. They can carry excessive loads of materials from distant points yet no one ever tries to ride one. They may not be fast, but it would sure as hell beat walking everywhere.

Wagon:
Depending on whether or not the player could find some mode of travel a wagon would have always been a great utility. I'm sure many of us roaming the wastes had moments of "Pick up all the things!" and went on trading binges. An accessory such as this would have been a very welcomed sight. However we also must consider the down side of the wagon. Such a utility would slow down the player in difficult terrain as well attract unwanted attention from the entities in the wasteland.

Climbing Gear:
I'm sure some of you are confused by this one, however I will go into detail.
In the original Fallout games there are times that the player will encounter cliffs, mountains, and ravines. I think having something such as climbing gear would be of great benefit when traversing such obstacles while traveling. And in the case that the player has any of the above it would be a down right necessity.

If anyone can think of additional modes of transport then please feel free to illuminate on them. For these I strongly suggest staying within the lore of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2.

Caravaneer 2 is really good in that regard.

You can use various animals(donkeys, bulls, horses, mules etc.) which have various speed, needs, weight limit and ability or lack of it to pull various carts(simple wooden ones, made from car wrecks, travois).

Later in the game you can invest in various vehicles. They are really expensive, gas isn't available in some parts of the map. Depending on a things you trade you can buy faster personal cars for trading weapons and luxuries or trucks that are slower, but better for slave trade with their capacity.

I would love it if cars actually could be used in random encounters. Like, why does everyone get out of the car when enemies show up?, Surely the best thing to do is stay in and run them over to hell and back.

You could have a whole intricate series of car combat mechanics. You could have drive by shooting mechanics(That can be done by both the player, and a companion in the passenger seat), and maybe even have customisations like better tyres, spikes, gun turrets, ect. that help you out in combat.

And you could have different enemies respond to cars in different ways, like humanoid enemies could try and shoot off the windshield before aiming at you, Molerats could leap on the car and try and claw the player, Deathclaws could tear the car in two, low-level enemies could run away. The possibilities are endless.

Imagine flying a Vertibird across the map, just go to anywhere you want to go without being stopped  But seriously one way of getting around quicker could be some kind of perk that allows you to pick out the best paths and routes to increase your speed and encounter less enemies. As you said an animal would be the most realistic, until it dies ...:falloutonline:

The option to camp in between day/night cycles which can also affect random encounters (say you and your party was caught during night since everyone also fall asleep and didn't push out one to guard or Myron sold your ass out to raiders but the deal didn't quite work out for example) and choose transport when choosing from a towns' list.
